Maybe. Rupert's style was more self-depricating than insult, but it is the same actor playing another struggling comedian 30 years later. It certainly sounds interesting!
shareYou should see it. Nothing like Rupert Pupkin at all, the superficial similarity notwithstanding. Pupkin is a fully realized and very entertaining dramatic character, who, incidentally, is not a comedian. This movie's character is an unfunny washed up comic who is spouting horrendous mean-spirited material, with other characters being completely unrealistic in that they are laughing.
