Beach slaughter location

I haven't watched all this movie yet. But I just checked out all the credits of the film on IMDBpro. I'm just curious as to why they would have used a Phuket, Thailand beach location for what's supposed to be Ibiza, Spain? I haven't been to Spain, but I have researched it and seen pictures and it didn't look at all like the Ibiza I've seen before. It was surrounded by lush fauna. I've been to Phuket and know what it looks like. Just seems weird they would use a tropical lush location to replicate a rather arid semi desert location.

Almost definitely money. It's the same reason they shoot in Toronto and call it New York. There are financial incentives for doing so.

It is no doubt cheaper to shoot in Thailand than Spain, and most viewers (like myself) won't know the difference.

Lol, know the difference. Well I've traveled lots myself. I instantly thought when he said Ibiza, that it didn't look like it at all. But a good sensible answer, which I'm sure is very true. However, I thought movie producers were somewhat obligated to trying there best to make something seem rather believable. I haven't visited New York city (seen it from a plane), but I've been to Toronto lots. It's easier to use ohe big city to replicate another, especially when there both within close proximity.

I know for B-movies these days sometimes even cities in countries like Bulgaria stand in for New York. Lots of direct-to-video action movies are being shot in Eastern Europe because of cost. I guess with the help of a few stock establishing shots, pretty much any serious city could double as NYC.

It seems to me that the feeling you're having here may be be akin to the feeling that someone has when they see a known landmark from their city in a show that's set in some fictional futuristic world. I've always thought that would be weird.
