The two things aren't mutually exclusive. In fact, there's a lot of logic to holding both views:

If you accept the idea that God created the Earth, then damaging the environment is damaging God's handiwork, and that surely wasn't His intention. Therefore:

Damaging the environment-->going against God's will.
