Why such a low score?

Why does this film have so much hate? I can see why Christians (the most tolerable people on the planet) won't really approve of it since it 'sort of' goes against the bible. But even still, its a really good film. Very well made, very enjoyable, and great performances all around. The scene where Noah was about to kill his newborn grandchildren was tenser than anything else I saw that year. I was nearly crying when he held a knife over those baby's. Even if you're Christian and disapprove of its story, its still a good film.

Na.

Its really not.

I won't argue that it was slim pickings in 2014 but interstellar, it follows, night crawler, predestination, the hobit etc were all far superior in terms of individual performance of leads, storytelling and/or tension.

Slim pickings? 2014 was my favourite year for film in the 21st century. Way better than 2015! Here's a list of all my favourite films from 2014! The Grand Budapest Hotel, Whiplash, The Lego Movie, Birdman, Gone Girl, Nightcrawler, Guardians of the Galaxy, Edge of Tomorrow, The Imitation Game, X-Men DOFP, Captain America 2! 2014 was great!

Super hero movies aside - 2015 was much stronger imho. Sicario, legend, black mass, spotlight, room, the man from uncle, mad max, the revenant, the witch, hateful eight, ex machina.. the list goes on and to a lesser extent krampus and the visit were interesting

reply

Oh hell no! Sicario was good, but not great. It had a few too many flaws. Legend was a mess. Black Mass was OK. Spotlight = yes, Room = yes, The Man from Uncle = NO! That movie sucked. Mad Max, I have a really unpopular opinion, but its a weak film. No characters, no story, just mindless explosions. It might as well have been directed by Michael Bay except it had better camera work. The Revenant was equally empty. Just a boring, overlong, predictable, hollow film with no rewatchability. The Witch = haven't seen. Hateful Eight, yeah I enjoyed that a lot. But tbh its probably the worst Tarantino film so far. Ex Machina, yeah that was pretty great. But all together 2014 was a much better year than 2015.

Sicario is incredible, Mad Max is a throwback great ACTION film.

It had some good points, but I found all of the CGI stuff very unrealistic and was thinking, while I watched it, about the very old films with shaky painted backgrounds and primitive special effects. I think it would have been better if they had attempted less and used real scenery and animals. Plus I could not accept those stone age transformers on any level.

But I was more interested in the story line, symbolism and parallels with modern society.

This movie wouldn't normally follow my criteria for movies to watch, but I saw it cos I love Aronofsky, and it was better than I expected. It seems as if people who like big budget action/epic movies only like them if they're all the same, and if it tries to have substance and artistic merit like this, then they don't like it. It wasn't perfect or the most memorable of Aronofsky's works, but I still found it quite entertaining.

reply

It goes against the Bible, that's why "Christians" don't like it? Noah is OLD Testament, haha.

reply

Do you realize the Old Testament is part of the Christian Bible?

As for the OP, if you don't want to judge this film against the Bible, fine. Which is fine because hen judging a movie "the book doesn't matter". So, let's judge it against history and science. The events of film predate spring loaded steel traps (history). There are rock monsters (science).

Now I can not actually judge the film on acting, cinematography or story as I only so five minutes of it. But in those five minutes I saw an anachronistic trap and rock monsters.
