Why do the girl child(ren) have to die?
I must have missed something. Why was a son good but a daughter bad?

Noah's interpretation of the Creator's plan sees him make all human life extinct, with the only difference for Noah's family being they die off, rather than drown. Noah rationalizes that it's OK for a boy to grow up to be the "last man" and see every one else die off. But not so good for a woman who after all is capable of bringing forth new life.🐭
shareAH yes I've just seen it again. This time I caught the scene around the fire where he was explaining that stuff, must have missed it on the first viewing. Thanks!

Something still doesn't make sense, though. He meant to kill the baby if it were a girl because it would be capable of bearing children, but not Illa? She would still be able to bear new children, possibly after he died, too, for all he knew, and who'd kill the babies then, when he wouldn't be there to do it?

Well it paints a much darker view of what Ila's fate might have been if she hadn't been rendered barren as a child. She was only let on the ark because she couldn't have children. That was the reason girls weren't allowed on the ark. Noah didn't want the human race to continue. So the only females on the ark couldn't reproduce, Ila because she was barren and Naameh because she presumably was too old. As to what he was planning to do with Ila after he murdered her babies...

You mean Ila's twin girls? They'll be the wives for Ham and Japeth. Gross to think about yes, but the early parts of the Bible didn't frown on incest. Or there could have been other survivors from the flood and if so, 'the creator' will send them to meet Noah's family.
