The ending....(Spoilers obviously)

Anyone else find the ending tragic? I nearly cried when they showed Mary laying there dead. Even though I knew she was a goner when she was losing that much blood I still was hoping she'd live.

reply

She was kind if a psychopath, so.... Nope! She definitely had it coming.

reply

I was sad that she dies, I was hoping it would end with her burning rubber down to LA with the dude from the strip club.

...and a pair of titties that make you wanna stand up and beg for buttermilk

reply

No. She was an abject psychopath. I only wish she'd suffered more.

There are two kinds of people in the world, those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.

No. She was an abject psychopath. I only wish she'd suffered more.

me too

reply

Disappointing. They just rushed it along... not fulfilling in any way.

reply

Totally agree with the rushed ending. It's like they looked at the run time and said oh cr-p, we need to end this movie!

reply

I also wished she lived... but ...

I know she was ... uhm. Destined for prison. She killed that cop in cold blood just to cover her tracks, and he wasn't even attacking her. That's ...

Here is the thing. Most psycho killer shows where people get empathy for the killer, like The Fall, or Hannibal / Silence of the Lambs, or The Sopranos, or Game of Thrones or whatever.... the killer is simply a killer. People like the psycho because the psycho is charismatic, which is what psychos do - they are charismatic and that's how they attract victims, whom they then destroy before moving on to the next thrill kill. They aren't actually likable, they just figure out how to act in a manner that attracts people, simply because it attracts people, and then they kill them.

In American Mary, to contrast, she starts out as a completely normal person, as far as I know. She is not a.... err.. 'natural psychopath'? She has guilt. Things bother her. That is the tragedy to me. To watch her fall. It's not that I find her likable or charismatic while she is going around killing people, It's that ... she is likable and charismatic, but that part of her personality slowly fades away as the movie progresses into darkness.

At the end, her sewing herself up to prove to the world she had the skills of a great surgeon... it's unforgettable moment on film to me.

she didn't kill any cops mate... ?

reply

That guy she killed wasn't a cop. I believe he was a security guard for the building. However, you said he wasn't even attacking her. The first thing he did when she turned around was smash her in the face with his flashlight or billy club, whichever it was. He hit her so hard, she fell to the ground. Then he stupidly said out loud he was going to call the police (meaning he's not a cop) and finally she viciously murders him.

reply

Won't say I nearly cried, but I was rooting for her and hoped she would live to kill the guy, avenging the human dolls. Then she could move on with her life, maybe go to LA because of the police, but I wish she continued with the surgeries, she was great at it and made people very happy in their own weird ways.

I didn't cry when she died, by that time in the film you knew she only had two options: death or being caught and sent to prison. I found Mary to be likeable character. She was a decent enough young woman, pursuing a very noble and renowned field of work. Understanding her predicament of student loan debt, I could--to a degree--understand why she sought out ways most wouldnt to be able to pay for school and all necessary bills. She was desperate and just ended up with the wrong (kinda right) people, which, got her to find what she was meant to do, help people find ways to further express their inner selves outwardly. After her rape, I felt for her and cheered when I saw her get her revenge on her POS rapist. But, that was the time when everything Mary was doing and what was done to here, mixed and combined a new Mary, one with not scruples about what she does or to whom she does it to. We see a classic tragic character who has suffered and unfortunately went too far down the rabbit hole. Now, as far as the movie is concerned, I really enjoyed it, though the 3rd act felt extremely rushed and did not fully explain the first two acts nor what we saw in the 3rd. ALl in all, i enjoyed the movie a lot.

Nothing to say she died, she was still blinking.

Only those with no valid argument pick holes in people's spelling and grammar. 

It was clear that the movie was not going to end well once she got involved in that *beep*
