be forwarned - the film was never completed, but released anyway

Obviously they never completed this film and cobbled together whatever footage was available into a semblance of a movie.

They were going to film the movie twice - once in a foreign language and once with the actors actually speaking English. Neither version was completed, so they pieced together what they had and released it anyway. Probably because they ran out of funds and felt they had no other option.

The first and last parts of the film are in a foreign language with on screen English subtitles. There is a section in the middle where the actors are actually speaking English (not dubbed, but speaking English live as filmed). Either neither version was completed, or perhaps they decided to piece together one version as a cost cutting compromise?

I can deal with the patchwork assembly, but unfortunately it doesn't appear the film as released was complete. It was creepy, with lots of strange things happening, but in the end no explanation is ever given.

Not sure what version you saw, but in my copy they only spoke English in the scenes with Stine, the foreign nanny, who didn't know any Dutch.

I think Stine understood Dutch, but English was spoken so the kids would not know what was said.

You are wrong. English is only spoken when Stine (the nanny) is present. As for this incomplete theory, no... just no. It's complete no matter how you feel about it.

You should also warn the readers that your post isn't actually a statement of fact, but rather some contrived nonsense you invented out of whole cloth because you didn't realize that one of the characters was actually supposed to be an English speaker.

It's perfectly fine to dislike this movie, but don't *lie* about it.

It would be awfully interesting if you had some sort of link about this being an unfinished movie, because if you simply assumed that they were planning to make two completely different language versions based on there being a few scenes where English was spoken, then you are the ultimate example of the ASSUME cliche (When you assume, you make an ASS out of U and ME).

Uhm no? The movie was spoken almost entirely in dutch, except for when they speak English with the nanny.
