One Of My Favorite Films This Year
Watched the trailer thought this is going to be the usual predictable but probably still enjoyable for a Friday Night, Fight Club esque film ala Black Swan and Shutter Island. However I was wrong as Paul Anderson (Who I've been dying to see since The Firm remake), Martin Compston's and Neil Maskel lift it high above with their ability to act realistically like normal British males would act.
Kieron Hawke's writing and directing also lifted it high above the usual tedious British uncinematic fare we've grown used to. He manages to avoid pitfalls lesser directors wouldn't have by leaving it up to us/the audience to make up our own minds. Is Piggy real? You tell me. Either way Paul Anderson is Gary Oldman and Ben Kingsley rolled into one very talented actor and Piggy is for me a very memorable British character.
I absolutely loved the ending because for once I felt somebody made a really good British vigilante film in the veign of Shane Meadows.
I'd call it 40% Dead Man's Shoes, 20% Fight Club, 20% Sexy Beast and 20%Taxi Driver. If you enjoy British classics like Mr Inbetween and Kill List I highly recommend this little film as it's destined to be a cult classic in my book.
It's got me excited for the Paul Ferris film because of a scene at the end of Piggy where Martin Compston enters full on "Begbie" mode.
