This is going to be shooting in the San Francisco Bay Area starting in June. People interested in working as extras on this movie should register with Nancy Hayes Casting in San Francisco.
I think it's about the same that SFCasting charges, $25 or so. But I believe that with SFCasting, you have to pay to register every 2 years; with Nancy Hayes once you're registered, you don't ever have to pay again.
It is an ultra-low-budget film, just learned the other day that it's largely being financed by Kink.com... and yesterday I saw an ad on Craigslist for unpaid non-union extras. So I'm assuming that the person who told me Nancy Hayes was casting meant that she's casting speaking roles, and/or SAG extra roles.
I'm really bummed about this.... I'm sure the cast is working for SAG minimum and all, and it is a first time writer director, but geez... doesn't background deserve to be paid for their time and effort? Do you suppose anyone else on this will work for free? The grips? Craft service?
I take it back... I suppose there are those seeking experience and/or credit who will do it. I hope for your sake FP that they offer up some paid SAG gigs - if I can't benefit it would be nice to know a friend did.

Thanks B A background... I hope so too! Still haven't seen any listings other than the unpaid positions listed on SFCasting and Craigslist... but I'll keep looking.
But seriously, when I was starting out, I did some extra work on no budget indies, and they always came through with some kind of compensation be it a $100 gift certificate for Peet's Coffee or a $75 BART pass (which I could promptly turn around and sell for cash)
Wow, I am really sad about this news. I knew this was an independent film, but I excepted at least a decent budget, I mean James Franco! Come on. But now it's lookin' like they'll will be here for a few weeks, they won't need Pier 80 or anywhere for that matter as soundstages, they won't be paying extras and they won't be hiring local professional "A-Team" crews. I'm really bummed out.
Last month the Chronicle reported that there was another major studio picture after "H&G" looking to film here, depending if they got the state tax credit, I naturally thought that film was Cherry, but reports came out yesterday of which productions received this years tax credit, and no SF tied projects got it.
So a few days ago, I thought we'd have The Master, Cherry, etc and some more big ones to look forward to later this year. And just like that, now its The Master for a couple of weeks before they go back down south, Five-Year Engagement for a couple days, most likely just for pick-up shots, and then these 2 small budget films. Considering that all film and tv studios think about these days is big film incentives, and that California only gives out such a limited amount of credits, I wonder if we'll see any more major film productions after this for a while.
I would like to hope so, but honestly, HBO wouldn't of let the Kaufmans film here if it weren't for state incentives, since that's all that production think about these days. And also, I'm pretty sure the Americas Cup folks are taking over Pier 80, so I don't think the City will be able to use it for stage space.
Also, Nine Lives of Chloe King, which filmed some scene here for their pilot last October and last month got the state tax credit, but is opting to film the show in Los Angeles, even though they could film up here and still get the tax credit. Damn.
I went in to Hayes Casting today and registered for the hell of it. Do they do a lot of BG stuff? It seemed like most roles they cast were audition-based speaking roles. But on the bright side, they had a promotion thing going on where registration was free!
That's cool that you didn't have to pay to register!
Nancy Hayes was the first casting office I registered with, back in '93. All the movies that filmed in SF for the first year or two after I started doing this were cast by Hayes. I wasn't aware of Beau Bonneau Casting until they started casting extras for "Nine Months". After that it seemed like B.B. started doing most of the movie extra casting and Hayes did most of the commercial casting.
Hayes still casts movies and TV pilots here and there (they cast "Hereafter" last year; someone told me Clint Eastwood is familiar with them from previous years when he did movies up here -- and even though they don't do a lot of movie casting anymore, they weren't going to tell him no ), and Bonneau does commercials sometimes, but for the most part, movies and TV extras casting is done by Bonneau (with the principals for those same projects cast by Nina Henninger), and most of the commercials that shoot in the area are cast by Hayes. They do a lot of print jobs too.
Some commercials have smaller groups of extras so they're all union (the first 55 have to be SAG) but I work on commercials every now and then with larger groups where both union and non-union are used. My guess is that most of the time when Hayes Casting contacts you, it'll be for commercial work. I don't know if you've worked on commercials before, but when you do you'll notice the money's better than it is for film work . I'm on "check-avail" with Hayes for a commercial this Friday -- still got my fingers crossed that I get it!
Oh yes commercials (and music videos, I'm told) have way more cash to spread around. I know that from doing crew work on one - 200 for 7 hours! As a PA!
