Streaming old episodes of Major Crimes right now, and i can't help but think how much better a show this is than The Closer. Major Crimes is more realistic, Sharon is more laid back and natural, the actress who played the lead in The Closer overacted and tried too hard with the southern accent and overall performance.
They're just 2 different shows. Major Crimes is just more interesting.
I know what you mean. I've really been enjoying Major Crimes MUCH more than The Closer. I found Brenda far too self-centred and annoying, while I really LIKE Sharon. I feel like I would really like to be friends with her.
On The Closer, it always seemed like Brenda solved the crimes all by herself, while the others just stood around in the background. On Major Crimes, they all have contributions to make, and have developed nice and interesting personalities. I love the way they are all like a family -- and not only for Rusty.
It's amazing how often I'll be watching an episode of Major Crimes, and I'll find myself thinking I LOVE this show!
Exactly, teamwork is needed in shows like this. Brenda would have been better off working alone in The closer.
shareI LOVE Major Crimes and always will but I cannot rate it above The Closer. Kyra Sedgwick was AWESOME in The Closer. I don't think she overacted nor did she try too hard with her southern accent. She sounded exactly like my cousins in Arkansas and Georgia! She netted a Golden Globe, an Emmy, and 2 Satellite awards for her portrayal of Brenda Leigh Johnson.
The focus in The Closer, as implied by its title, was on Brenda. And I loved the quirky intuitive leaps that led her to the truth. The camaraderie on The Closer was pretty close to that in Major Crimes, but, Major Crimes does have the advantage of more time spent together. I have watched every single episode of The Closer probably 25 times each, not exaggerating, either. I've binged on Major Crimes, too.
I DO adore Mary McDonnell/Captain Raydor. The evolution of Sharon from her overly strict FID character in The Closer to the more laid back Sharon we see now was done very well. I also highly enjoy the continued family feeling of the squad.
I think that Major Crimes is one of the best shows on television today. I quit watching the major networks about the same time as TNT really started delivering in quality shows.
And perhaps, in a few more years, you might get to me to admit I love it as much as The Closer.
I get what you are saying. I've recently been binge watching Major Crimes and iv'e recently been having a change of heart about that show, "Rusty" annoys me, i know his presence separates Major Crimes from all the other basic cop dramas, but his constant frowned facial expression is annoying as hell.
I recently streamed an episode of The Closer - episode titled "Road Block" i think it's season 7 episode 14, that episode was brilliant, and Brenda was great in that episode. I think the fact that because Captain Raydor is cooler and more laid back than Chief Johnson - a lot of us as viewers tend to focus more on the lead's personalities, but at the end of the day they're just two different people. I'll probably start watching episodes of The Closer again at some point, i actually now prefer that Brenda got more screen time, the cops in Major Crimes get too much screen time and that Latino cop is annoying with his anger problems, he isn't a very good actor, every time he starts shouting and screaming at a suspect i can't take him seriously, he just isn't believable, watching them on The Closer has them taking a major back seat, they're more seen rather than heard.
I'll still stream new episodes of Major Crimes when it returns next year, i really like Sharon, i along with a lot of other fans just hope that the network kills off that "Rusty" character.
I'm on the last season of The Closer and I have to say that I can't stand Mary McDonnell. She always tries to intimidate Brenda and plus her voice is so annoying. . . . .nasally . I'll give it a try. . ..
