Josh Gad and his mom (spoilers)

I just saw the film last night, and I came on here to see if anyone else noticed something my girlfriend and I noticed, but I haven't seen anything about it. I'm not sure how to put this, but I guess the best way to ask is whether or not there was some incest going on between Josh Gad's character and his mother. There was that scene where he was changing the light bulb and she was rubbing his leg, and his bottom, and he began to look very anxious and nervous, and it seemed she was doing it in a very sexual manner. And at the end of the film, when he finally decides to tell her about his addiction, all we hear him say before the music begins to drown everything out is something along the lines of "now I want you to sit there and listen to me, things are going to change between us..." I'm sure I got the quote wrong, so please don't criticize me too much on that.

My point being is that this would also explain his sex addiction, I'm sure if his mother was "molesting" him, it probably would have started at a very young age, and maybe happened on quite a regular basis, and like a lot of addicts, this is the only way he knows how to connect with people.

This is a very daring subject to tackle on film, thus far the most blatant depictions I've seen of this subject matter have been in the films of Todd Solondz, and like I said, I feel it was very subtly approached, and if you leave to use the restroom you'd miss it. Maybe the film requires another viewing for better clarification, but I was just wondering if anyone else had the same observation.

Wouldn't surprise me if this was the case after the other very sick incest role play scene

your right, I got to see a screening for this movie sponsored by a local Clinic and they had a Q&A with therapists right after. One of them mentioned that he Gad's character was acting out towards women because of how his mom treated him...specifically that if she could act that way toward him then he's going to "molest" women in the same manner.

I got the impression that there had been a role reversal at some point, where he had become the responsible adult and she had taken on the role of a dependent big child.

I had noticed that as well, pretty unsettling moment between son and mother. I felt really sorry for him.
