I think and it does come down to Hollywood not not what to do with it. But, the reason it failed out in the wild so to speak seems to be probably that NO ONE has heard of it. I like to think of myself as a movie fan. Although not quite as obsessive about it as I used to be and I had never heard of it until I saw the title and was wondering what it was, so came here and read up on it a little bit.
You are right a fantasic cast. And it's always a treat to see Patrick Fugit, whom I don't think gets the work he deserves. Then I see the rest of the cast and it is quite impressive. So I think the failure would be, as like I said I more than what I'd consider the average movie viewer not having an idea about the film. I'd wager the level of awareness of other people is even less so. This seems to be in part as that it seems to be a Roadshow production, whereas its not their fault a lot of the films seems to kind of fly under the radar.
Mostly they end up on DTV and on the on demand services. So lack of advertising and promotion are two of the likelist factors I am sure here, which is surprising a bigger corporation didn't try to get a hold on the film (considering Ruffalo and Paltrow along should have drawn considerable interest regarding their current profiles). So sadly it just seems to be one of those films that just got lost in the shuffle. Which is too bad really.
