Index finger Possible SPOILER ALERT

Is this some exercise people use to aid in their fight against the addiction? At the end of the film one of the main characters walks by a provocation and points out his index finger three times.

Does anyone have any opions or insight for me. Thanks in advance.

I kind of wondered the same thing. I'm an alcoholic and never saw that so I'm thinking it was only his thing for himself. I was thinking one day at a time.

nice emoticon, Marty.

I guess you can color me insensitive.

Good luck and kudos with your sobriety. And, i am sorry for the thoughtless emoticon especially with a film with this theme[addicition].

Maybe I will think more.

That's alright, I was only joking. I'm fine and I appreciate your comment.

That is a recovery tool for sex addicts called "Three Second Rule" [http://www.sexualrecovery.com/blog/sexual-addiction-recovery/basic-tools-for-sexual-recovery/]

Mark Ruffalo also does that at the start of the movie while walking on the manhattan street.

Interesting...Perhaps such a practice was alluded to in a clip that did not make the final cut. So, when i noticed the index finger thing, I had no reference point or explanation for it.
Thank you for the insight and link.

There's a scene where Mark Ruffalo says "one day at a time" while he does the gesture, which explains why he did it earlier in the film.

There's a scene somewhere in the middle where Mark Ruffalo is talking to Tim Robbins and Josh Gad (or their characters rather) at a meeting and he does the finger thing while saying "ONE DAY at a TIME." I assumed that's what it meant.

Yes, and he starts to do it a little while following behind Phoebe on bicycle during their first date. I wonder if he didn't do it completely because he realized he was trying to head into a committed relationship so didn't need it.
