I'm thinking the critics are loving the political subtext to the story. Although the plot is paper thin, there is a very
Subtle war/political statement made in the film and thats the kind of thing critics love, especially because it makes them feel smarter than everyone else(which they aren't). That combined with the art direction and set design is enough for the critics to give it praise.
Personally, I just watched it last night and have mixed feelings about it.
That's a shame. I liked it.
