Russian accent

Supposedly Russian characters speak English with a supposedly Russian sounding accent. That is just annoying and absolutely irritating throughout the whole movie! You either do the original language with subtitles of leave it in English, presuming the setting makes it clear. BIG MINUS! It ruined the film for me, as well as the laughable title track. As such the movie is bearable, some nice ideas, but nothing special. Better stick to Dead Snow, the Outpost series or The Keep for some nice War-Nazi-Zombie-Horror. Once again: the accent screws it!

Guess you haven't seen many movies.
Anyway, using the accent captures the flavor of the language. As it is, Americanisms like "I don't get it" kept creeping in. THAT was the only distracting part. The use of accents absolutely added to the characterizations.

They did the same thing in Schindler's List. Many Yanks I know won't watch subtitled movies, they hate reading subtitles and or can't keep up with them. I felt bad for poor Sasha, they were always yelling at him.

I own a Kindle and read 2 to 4 books a month so it has nothing to do with me not enjoying reading, I refuse to watch a movie that requires me to read sub titles. I enjoy reading but I usually will turn off any movie with subtitles. One movie I really wanted to watch was Das Boot. The movie was only available with subtitles but I waited many years for the full 293 minute mini series to be released in English and German. This allows the person watching it to watch it in the language they prefer.

I just started watching this Frankenstein movie on Netflix and it looks like it may be worth watching so I am glad to see this movie is in English.

I do believe that with DVD technology the viewer could easily be allowed to have a choice of watching the movie in which ever language they choose. One thing that I will never understand is why someone would prefer to watch a movie in a language they do not understand.

Interesting. I'm a 'Yank' and I almost always watch movies with subtitles turned on. Sometimes it's because my children are being noisy, but mostly it's because I hate missing dialogue. In many movies I find there are garbled bits of dialogue, or the character says a lot quickly. Subtitles are awesome. I can't believe I went so many years without them.

I usually watch movies in english with the subtitles turned on because many actors do not speak clearly. I like the subtitles as a option but I do not want to spend 90 minutes or more staring at the screen reading. I can think of a few movies that were subtitled that I watched.

My mother had poor eyesight and could not read the subtitles so I spent almost 3 hours reading the subtitles to "The Last Temptation of Christ (1988)".Another time I went to a movie with my friends from Hong kong and their parents could not understand English well. We went to a movie in Mandarin or Cantonese. I had to read the subtitles but it made it easier for them to enjoy the movie.

Subtitles are a great help for people with hearing problems but what about people that have problems with their eyesight and are unable to see the subtitles.

You have your opinion, but there's no real consensus on this. English-no-accent, English-with-accent or original language with subtitles: it varies from director to director.

The real problem with English-with-accent is keeping a standard of just HOW much accent should be involved, like do you carry over certain grammatical quirks and so forth?
