I so called it..

Just watched the movie and kept on thinking that Virgil is going to get scammed. A lot of foreshadowing in it. I felt so sorry for him at the end.

I seen it coming. Everything was too 'pleasant' for him not to be taken advantage of.

Wow. It was sooo obvious. In fact, I was sure there was going to be another twist. I'd read that there were a few twists beforehand, so I was thinking about what they might be - could Virgil actually be aware of their plans, and be scamming them?? But no - he got robbed like we all knew would happen , and that was it. Disappointing. Very disappointing.

Yeah, it's kinda easy to find a twist when you know to look for one.

LOL I guess it's "sooo obvious" when you know beforehand there's a twist.

You ruined the movie yourself and then you're complaining about how it went exactly as how you were expecting. Sounds like that's your problem! Not a problem with the movie itself. I started watching this movie randomly on netflix, I had no idea even what kind of movie it was, and I wasn't disappointed in it at all. It was a little bit of a surprise, yeah, but the end wasn't the whole entire point of the movie. The whole movie and the symbolism is what the movie is about. It sounds like you came into it expecting a jack-in-the-box to pop out at you and just because it didn't happen as you expected, the ending is "disappointing."  boo hoo, your loss.

Don't feel too sorry for him. He was a scam artist who got scammed.

As I said already, the movie is deliberately shot that way to make us understand very early that he's being scammed.

It is made so obvious from the very start that one begins to expect that the actual plot twist one's being set up for is that there's no scam, Claire is indeed in love with Virgil and that they will marry and live happily ever after.

But that plot twist fails to materialize. This is actually one source of negativity towards this movie expressed by some watchers: there's no plot twist at the end.
