The painting of Claire's mother

Raises questions for me:

As Billy painted it did he know Claire's mother? He must have to do the painting, or is it a modified painting of Claire herself?

Was Billy Claire's father?

Go ahead, make my day....

btw, one of the beautifull and amazing painting from the film, I would love to have that painting on my home.
Well done by the producers.

I assumed it was a painting of Claire without her highlights. Also her physique and flexibility imply she may have ballet training. Really the con artists went out of their way to include mocking hints to Virgil about what they were doing.

I'm guessing the ballerina was a modified Claire, but no way was Billy her father. Making his own daughter sleep with that snake?

Why would Billy have to have known Claire's mother?! An artist can do a painting from a photograph, you know.

Billy has known Virgil for a long time, obviously years, because it would take a very long time to accrue such a massive art collection. I cannot imagine in all that time, if they were as good of buddies as they appeared to be, that if Billy had a daughter, Virgil would know nothing about her or never have seen her. On top of that, there's absolutely nothing in the movie to indicate or even hint that Claire might be related to Billy.

Pfft... This is just ridiculous.

Of course the painting has nothing to do with "Claire's" mother. What would be the point? The painting was deliberately made to resemble "Claire" and that's it.

I think the whole thing was Billy's revenge on Virgil for all of the years they had worked together to acquire the paintings for Virgil and all Billy got was some cash. His take from the deals didn't come close to what Virgil ended up with. "Claire" may have been his daughter. Her sleeping with Virgil wouldn't necessarily have been a consideration when they were planning the whole thing. I think she really did fall in love with Virgil a little (remember, she hugged him and said if anything happens to us, know that I do love you), so that decision was hers. Even if she wasn't Billy's daughter, they had to have been fairly close to trust each other and to spend the time necessary to plan and pull off the crime. What I didn't understand is, if Billy painted the portrait of "her mother" then why didn't Virgil recognize it was Billy's work? I mean if he's an expert and all, right?
