An android? Really? I didn't get that at all. Just that she was the real Claire who happened to have a savant mind.

That woman in the bar is the inspiration for the dwarf that Robert talks about possibly being inside the automaton, as well as the inspiration for Claire's name, which is obviously not her real name. She is also the landlord of the shop space next to the cafe/bar, because she tells Virgil that she often rents out the space to Robert, who is mechanically inclined and "can fix anything." So it is quite obvious that at least Robert & Billy have been in that bar before, making plans.

If you recall the conversation about the automaton, Robert says that even if the voice of the automaton was just a dwarf hiding in the base of where the automaton was sitting (like the large wooden dice box), and his voice was coming up through the automaton, how was it "always right?" Well there's your answer. The autistic savant in the bar was never wrong. She kept track of everything, all the people coming & going, and even when the customers playing pool argue with her, eventually they realize they made a mistake and she was correct. It was proof that humans are capable of acting like machines, as well as an ironic parallel to the fact that Virgil himself was being scammed by an automaton. He thought he was picking up the pieces to an antique and was going to make a fortune off of it after secretly collecting the bits. Even though he loved Claire wholeheartedly, he never did admit to her anything about the gears he was paying the caretaker to sneak out of the house for him, did he?

Yes, it was weird that it was given away like that. I had accidentally had the subtitles on in the beginning, the first time we meet her, and it said, "Android speaking..." The whole movie I was trying to figure out why they called her an android.
