The creepy music and voices while he watches the films

Are they supposed to be the audio of the individual home movies themselves? Or just the movie's soundtrack?
I find the idea creepier if the music and weird voices were on the actual home movies.

I think just the film's soundtrack. It sure was creepy.

Yeah, 10 minutes after writing this they were playing the weird music with the creepy voices while he was doing something else. I guess I was so fixated on the the audio while he was watching the home movies that I blanked it out when he was doing other things.
To quote Gilda Radner - Never mind!

There's no sound equipment connected to the projector so there goes the idea of the sound coming from the home movies. Suspended disbelief though leads to believe that it actually is coming from them. By the way, the music is actually Silence Teaches You How to Sing by Ulver.

Good post Andrew. I was wondering the same thing, but wasn't sure if some limited audio of family members screaming was on an audio. Must of been my imagination. I'm assuming Super 8 mm camera?

reply

Although it would be impossible it is terrifying to think that the sounds were part of the films. And I also was imagining sounds of terror. It was the scene with the family about to be burned in the car. I had myself thinking the were mumbling and trying to scream something like please somebody help me through the duck tape over their mouths. Creepy stuff. Was that the scene that you were talking about hearing screams. That is addressed to whoever mentioned it.

Ethan Hawke is wearing headphones connected to the projector, so I think the idea is that it comes from the film.

Which makes the movie a little dumber, apparently the evil ghost has a film processing lab and audio editing software stashed somewhere.

I'm pretty sure that I don't remember Ellison wearing any headphones whatsoever. Are you sure you aren't confused with the wire that's attached to his glasses so he can wear them around his neck?

Go make a movie!

reply

I think it was supposed to have come from the movies, he's wearing headphones and at one point when he turns off the movie, the music stops abruptly.

I just like thinking about the evil ghost having to learn how to use Protools and going on Itunes for scary music to stick in.

reply

Oh come on let's not have sour grapes but let us put aside about how the music was there. Impossible yes but remember everything about the videos are impossible and they contain the supernatural. The music would be there for the same reason the demon was able to put himself in and make the videos in the first place. It's more creepy that it was part of the videos themselves and not the soundtrack. And it's creepy that during the car burning one it's like the music sounds like muffled voices saying somebody help me.
