This is how I would have done the movie(please read)

I found the tapes to be really amazing and the music terrific. However the way the movie hits you over the head with the supernatural stuff right in your face instead of subtle at the end really ruined the film for me. This is my idea for a plot, many elements are the same but way more conservative and pulled back. If you guys think it's stupid then that's fine but I wanted some feedback and I felt like writing it.

Here is my plot for the first just thrown together right now. Why not tease the demon in the tapes the whole movie and make the main character think he is dealing with a masked killer for example. Near the last few tapes, let's say he finds out through research that this image he keeps seeing is not just any mask that some serial killer is wearing. Its a symbol of an ancient demon who steals kids and forces them to do his bidding. He still brushes it off as a serial killer because he doesn't believe in that of course. Then the last tape horrifies him, it's video of the house he just moved out of! the video ends with someone burying something in his Old yard. He lies to his wife the next day about going somewhere and when he arrives at the old house he finds the police are there. The whole family that moved in was found murdered but the little girl is missing. He waits until night to go into the yard to get the bag with a shovel. He takes it home and try's to act normal the whole day but is visibly shaken.

He opens the bag finally in the attic to find more tapes. The first shows a horrifying video of the people who bought his house getting murdered. How could this be he asks? He found the tape of someone burying these tapes in his old yard before the killing took place! He wants to call the cops right there but he just has to watch the other two remaining tapes. The first is an creepy compilation of old symbols and ends with a group of kids, their backs turned to the camera that appear to be talking to an invisible force. The last tape shows the unimaginable as it shows that the killers from each tape are the children of the families. Right as he races downstairs to call the cops he is hit over the head. He wakes up to find himself taped to the couch. His eyes move around frantically as he spots his son and wife taped next to him. His daughter walks into the room with an axe and an old camera we see the axe go down and hear a splat. His wife is next. Down, splat. Tears roll down his checks as its his turn. Right as the axe is about to come down his eye catches that horrible white face in the edge of the room emerging. He screams as the axe comes down. Black screen. Sorry for the essay but that's how my movie would have gone.

Good effort that and a good take on what this movie could have been.

Thanks man. I don't mean to sound arrogant but I actually free wrote that and I honestly feel that it was better than how they did it. Now obviously I don't have the talent to direct a film and there is no way in hell I could have made those tapes amazing like they could but it seems like they didn't even try after those ghost kids turned up. Who knows maybe their idea sounded good on paper as well, but I expect they wanted to cater to the casual audience with jump scares. It almost feels like this film was made my two people. The first did the tapes and the first little bit of the film, and the second did the awful (IMO) second half. I honestly think if this movie had gone off the supernatural BS or pulled it way back and actually thought of an amazing plot and mystery with twists(not mine lol). It could have been one of the best horror films of all time I think. The tapes are 10/10 to me along with the first little bit.
