The tapes were Terrifying!

Also the music that went along with those tapes. It is seriously some of the best stuff put on film ever IMO just because how real it all feels. I didn't really care for the supernatural element but I could live with it, however everything after those tapes including the ghost children running around was really lame. They should have come up with something better as the tapes were so amazing.

very disturbing "home" movies. like you said, they really had something good there and let it die. at least tie in the killings with something other than they lived in each others homes. the music was as creepy as the films themselves, especially the end credits music.

i've never watched the movie '8mm'with nicolas cage, but its supposed to also include some disturbing footage as the centerpiece of that movie.

Yea for sure. The movie should have had more tapes spread throughout the whole movie and maybe like a subtle ending that explained everything, instead of ghost children running around and seeing a clear view of the demon thing constantly jumping out. Less is almost always more which is what the tapes got right. Thanks I will have to look up what you told me. Honestly after seeing this movie they could totally make the best found footage movie ever with a super 8 cam. I've unfortunately seen plenty of Real Snuff movies and it really captured the terror and realism.

Unlikely. From wikipedia:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snuff_film

A snuff film is defined by the American Heritage Dictionary as "a movie in a purported genre of movies in which an actor is actually murdered or commits suicide".[1] It may include a motion picture genre that depicts the actual murder of a person or people, without the aid of special effects, for the express purpose of financial exploitation, but that detail is extraneous, so long as it is "circulated amongst a jaded few for the purpose of entertainment".[2] Some filmed records of executions and murders exist but have not been released for commercial purposes.[3]

From snopes.com:
http://www.snopes.com/horrors/madmen/snuff.asp

Claim: Films are routinely made for entertainment purposes in which participants are murdered on camera.

Status: False.

Origins: All the fretting about it aside, not so much as one snuff film has been found. Time and again, what is originally decried in the press as a film of a murder turns out, upon further investigation, to be a fake. Police on three continents routinely investigate films brought to them, and so far this has always been their verdict. No snuff films. Some clever fakes, yes. But no real
product.

***************

Are there videos out there of people being beheaded by terrorists? Of course. Are there videos of horrible accidents where people died? Sure. Are there videos of people being murdered within view of security cameras? Yes. I've seen footage of all of that stuff, too. But is there footage out there of people being murdered on camera for the sole purpose of murdering them on camera for the entertainment of others? It would appear not.

Cannibal Holocaust would appear to come closest, but the real deaths in that film featured animals, not people (director still should have been given a severe beating, at least, IMO):

There absolutely is my friend. Ever heard of the deep web? Red rooms? You can pay to have someone killed how you like in real time... Kinda like a sex chat but murder. Also "one Lunatic one ice pick. I think that fits the definition. Awful stuff

That music still sticks in my mind during all the tape footage. Really disturbing stuff, and the music just really tied it all together.

The music is moody but not overpowering. I didn't even notice it on my first viewing. How interesting that it really stood out for some viewers.

I watched this movie again tonight in part so I could check out the music accompanying the films. Darned if those who pointed out the impact aren't right. Very cool!

Are y'all saying that it should've have been more like v/h/s where they guy just watches footage I can dig that

Completely agree. The super 8 films were some of the creepiest things I've ever seen. They really should have stuck with a non-paranormal story if you ask me. The jump scares in this were stupid.
