Alternate Plotline

Many people are dissatisfied when the plot line moves to supernatural elements. Many are unhappy with the climax of this movie. So I wonder what could have been the best way to edit and end this story. Give me your suggestions. It will be interesting to read the different viewpoints.

I thought it could go in the other cliche direction of: the videos making Ethan completely crazy and go and kill his family. Kind of a modern version of the Shinning.

The murders were a metaphor for an encroaching totalitarian government.

in order for the movie to not be supernatural i think the killings would have had to start in the 80s in stead of the 60s, cause the killer would be too old (in my opinion) to keep killing in 2011, assuming he started in his 20's in the 1960s. in the end i think if it were an actual killer he would wait a few months, break in while the whole family was gone, drug all the food, tie them up and kill them in the same manner, kidnap the daughter, does whatever he does, and kills her eventually like the other kids.

(or if this isn't too cheesy through the years he kept one of the kids alive, raised that kid, they suffer from stockholm syndrome/brainwashing, and helps with the killings LOL!)

i've got feelings too, ya know - inbetweeners

Like most viewers, apparently, I also thought that the movie could have been better without the supernatural angle. The killer should have been a real human serial killer. The idea that he has been killing since the 1960s seems intriguing, so they should have kept that, although it makes the killer rather old.
