...be about some serial killer? What's this obssession about making this movie less scary and more cliched?

At least with a serial killer we could've spent all that "filler space" trying to figure out who the killer was.

shareIt would've been cliche and not scary, possibly predictable but at least it would've been somewhat entertaining trying to connect all the dots.
Instead we get 90 minutes of nothing happening bar some noises, cheap jumpscares, dumb kids being dumb kids and dumber ghost kids doing the token "shhh."
Some people find horror movies about the supernatural scarier. Movies about serial killers are actually grounded in reality and usually not scary at all. The supernatural is scarier because it entails the unknown and things beyond one's control. I've never found Friday the 13th or a movie like Zodiac to be scary. Although Zodiac was a very good film.
shareZodiac wasn’t really meant to be scary for the most part. More of a thriller imo.
