Shining

Am I the only one who sees The Shining overtones in Sinister?

reply

Well, he is a writer and ...no, that's it.

reply

Yes. The shots of creepy children standing in the hallway definitely remind me of Shining.

reply

I picked up on it too

reply

No, you're not. I saw elements of The Amityville Horror and The Shining.

reply

You're not alone. My mom and I just saw this and she said the same thing... The Shining. Just... a very poor copy though. Of the elements, that is. The children in the corridor weren't half as frightening. And Ethan Hawke is no Jack Nicholson.

Yes, because the father grows increasingly agitated as the film progresses. He also happened to be be a writer.

No! I was thinking that right at the beginning. The story made me think of Pet Semetry too.

reply

It's definitely there. The college Tshirt Ethan wears. The second I saw it I was like, does that say Stovington College?? It said Bennington, but still. His speech in the bedroom was very similar to Jack's speech about his job at the overlook and how he could really write his own ticket by working a car wash or shoveling our driveways etc. And just the child spirits thing in general.
