Julie Rylance was abysmal

was she REALLY the best actress that auditioned for that role? She sounded like she was reading from prompt boards. She had little expression, and her relationship with Ethan Hawke was cold

reply

I heartily agree. She just seemed...out of place. Maybe the accent? lol

reply

She was awful!!

Juliet Rylance's performance dragged her scenes down considerably. She wasn't given much to work with as the harpy wife, but I don't think she could have handled it had her character been better written. Thankfully, she's hardly in this film.

reply

And why is it (in these types of movie) the wife does bugger all?
Doesn't work but want the fruits of their mans labour.
And why ain't the kids on school ?
Disgusting. ..tut tut ?

reply

Her acting was fine. Her only job was to be a thorn in her husband's side and she did well with it.

reply

Her best scene was when she found out about the previous owners. "Your kids are your legacy." That was an overall great scene.

reply

Yeah, she was so bad it was laughable. I was picturing the script every time she delivered her lines, thinking I could have done a hell of a lot better than her and I'm not an aspiring actress! Bad casting, for sure.

reply

I didn't like her much either.
She & Ethan Hawke had little chemistry, and her heavy English accent seemed out of place for some reason here.

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.

reply

Well, Julie WAS from London. She WASN"T supposed to have much to do!
