The 2 on 1 fight

Did anyone else dislike this scene? Up until that point the movie had been realistic in the fighting, well compared to most action movies anyway. But this scene is ridiculous. No one can take that much of a beating, as all of those three guys are taking. Getting your head slammed into the concrete floor three times? No problem. I can even buy that Mad Dog would let both of the brothers fight him, he is crazy like that. But the fight itself I can't buy.

It takes away some points from the movie, in my opinion.

i think they purposely made the last fight like that
just in case you've forgotten this was originally a martial arts film.

I tend to agree. Even though I enjoyed the fight scene, it did seem to be a bit ludicrous. Mad Dod almost seemed superhuman at times. He was a little above the scope of the movie.

That's BS.
All three of them have already taken a heavy beating! Rama got hit throughout. Mad Dog has almost lost to the sergeant and took many hits in that fight. And Andi was chained up and used as a punching bag. That's as if the final fight was just the second half of a bigger fight. Nobody an withstand such a beating like they did here, not even in action movies. At some point you just pass out, no matter how much heart you have. Have YOU ever seen a MMA bout? If you hadm you shuold know that a single well placed hit can knock someone's lights out.

The fight just took too long and was over the top.

Erm ... you said it yourself, people used to get knocked out fast. The reason why this doesn't happen that often anymore is because MMA is more of a SPORT now and less of a street fight! There are rules. And they might want to win but not to injure anybody. I don't know why you even brought MMA fights up in the first place - they may be the closest you can get to real fighting but they are still far from the real thing and most importantly: They are not fights to the death!

I've seen tons of old kung fu movies (I am probably older than you, born in 1975) and love them, but I would still say the same: Highly unrealistic. Which doesn't even mean the movies are bad - it's just over the top. They got carried away.
For example my favourite oldschool Shaw Brothers flick is this little gem:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078969/reference
It also happens to have a final fight 2 vs 1. The protagonists get an inhumanly beating (with a Bo nonetheless!) that should have turned them into pulp. But it's still one of my favourite fights ever (and I've seen a ton). Yet I acknowledge that the amount of damage taken is ridiculous and wouldn't start inventing explanations. It is what it is: A mindless action fest and should be taken as that.

Never got warm with Bruce Lee. His fights were 80% posing and 20% actual (lopsided) fighting. My heroes of the 80s and on were Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao. And while you were into the WWF, I watched NWA fanatically - seems like we are not compatible in taste ;) (although, compared to now, WWF was also fantastic back then)

Ah, yes, Sting and Road Warriors were my favourites too but also Midnight Express (the lineup with Bobby Eaton and Stan Lane), Dr Death Steve Williams and Rick Steiner.
Still remember buying english wrestling magazines imported from the US even though my english was horrible. And still have about 10 VHS cassettes with wrestling from that era that I don't dare to throw away.

I noticed how it seemed more like they were tagging in each other. You don't see them both wale into him, it was mostly 1 v 1 until one of the brothers gets hit hard and then the next jumps in for another 1 v 1.

reply

Realistic? LMAO! 5 guys against one and all of them end up dead or knocked out is realistic to you?

reply

The most unrealistic scene to me was the one where they jump out of a window and fall safely about 5 floors below on a fire escape.

Koalas are telepathic. Plus, they control the weather.

reply

It was two floors going by the numbering on the walls. So about 20ft, which keeps it in the realms of the 'just about plausible'. Plus, I take issue with the use of the word 'safely' - the gangster died, and the cop could barely stand or walk afterwards.

I loved the 2 on 1 fight, I loved the team work between Rama and his brother, the way that Gareth follows every movement during the fight scenes is just cool
