Was it really necessary...(possible spoilers)
for Liz/Joanna to actually have her own tongue cut out? This bothered me. I get that it made for more dramatic tension; we feel her terror more acutely by the expressions on her face when the preacher/her father shows up, but most likely wouldn't her husband have accepted her if she still had a tongue? She could have shown up and told him that the other woman had unfortunately been killed and she was prepared to take her place. He was looking for a wife and by using a marriage broker, apparently wasn't too choosy. So if a young, beautiful woman showed up wanting to marry him, what reason could he have to object?
