So Howard..........spoiler
went along with Pearl's madness for 60 years?
shareSeems so. This prequel was not needed in my opinion. It just spoiled the aftertaste of X.
shareI finally saw this tonight and that's one of the things I thought when it ended. He must have helped cover up many things for her over the years. Talk about a devoted husband!!
shareHoward just got back from WWI. Probably wasn't as fazed as most men would be by what he found at the farm. Besides, we don't know what story Pearl gave him. Maybe he thought she was suffering the equivalent of shell shock. He might not know that she killed his sister. Then again, maybe he's just a devoted softie terrified by her energy and cowed into going along.
shareYeah, I wondered how he got from walking in to that table scene, to staying with her his whole life.
shareIn sickness and in health, baby
shareAnd murder. Don't forget murder. They never say it in the vows, but it is implied.
shareShe murdered his own sister though.
shareI bet Pearl had that talk she practiced with Mitsy with the real Howard. He probably felt immense guilt for not only going off to war but also keeping her at her family's farm. And we don't know what atrocities he saw/participated in during the war, so who knows how twisted he had become.
Everyone else could sense that there was something wrong with Pearl except for his sister who seemed a bit airheaded. Pearl was not good at hiding her strangeness. But Howard had gone to the point of marrying her. He liked her strangeness. I think Howard was sick in the head before he ever met Pearl.
Eating that rotted pig would have killed them both.
