Biggest Action star in Movie history vs Zombies = boring Artsy crap

What an absolute disappointment this film was. You get Arnold Schwarenegger, the biggest action movie star of all time and you pit him against Zombies, of which 95% of zombie movies involve a lot of blood, gore, killing and action....

Then they made it this artsy fartsy boring pile of *beep* in which Arnie only kills 3 zombies.... THREE ZOMBIES. And he only fires his gun ONCE, and that was to kill a fox ffs

Poorly advertised, should have cast Ryan Gosling instead of Arnie, it would have been more fitting.

Oh and Abigail Breslin is an awful actress

reply

A lot of people seem to love this move but I'm in agreement with you on this. Arnold was not needed for this movie, anyone could have played the part.

The father/daughter zombies in the woods were killed OFF CAMERA and I'm not sure why they were even killed to begin with. They were just standing there motionless, especially the little girl.

Just a couple of scenes with some zombies attacking and seeing Arnold in action would have gone a long way. Why even make this a zombie movie? Why not just some random virus that his daughter contracted instead of turning into a flesh eating zombie.

reply

My thoughts exactly. As a standalone movie it's quite good, just feel it was mis-cast. I only want to see Arnie kicking Zombie arse and shooting up the place to protect his daughter.

This should not have been classed as a Zombie movie, they should have never used the word Zombie, if they said it was a virus or something similar to 'The Last of Us' or 28 days Later, I wouldn't be as annoyed.

Watching somebody turn into a zombie while still alive was just stupid. Everybody knows you die first, only then can you become a zombie

reply

Arnie was cast for his strength - watching somebody that powerful become vulnerable when he can't stop a disease from ravaging his daughter...

they should have never used the word Zombie

I don't think they ever said it in the film... maybe in reviews and marketing, but it's easy enough to just go where the story takes you, when you watch the movie.

Everybody knows you die first, only then can you become a zombie

There's no rulebook on how zombies behave, because they're fictional...

reply

Even when Wade mercy killed the fox, it was off camera and all you heard was the shot.

reply

OP, clearly this movie wasn't for you. i don't even care for Breslin or Arnie but i loved the movie. i also knew that this movie was a DRAMA and not a horror movie. and no, this movie should not have cast Gosling. i never thought i'd say this but Arnie did a fantastic job, Breslin as well.

reply

I was disappointed myself. I should of known with the movie name is Maggie but leading up to the movie they were pushing Arnold as the main character/attraction. Still enjoyed seeing Arnold though in a role he normally does not do.

reply

I love Arnold Schwarzenegger, I seen all his films, this was just an awful mismatch that didn't work

reply

Well whats done is done. Hope he got all the cobwebs out and delivers in the new Terminator movie in a couple of months.

reply

Hopefully he doesn't just walk around slowly looking miserable like he did in this film, lol

reply

what was he supposed to do in this movie? walk around all happy go lucky and laughing and loving life? no. his daughter was coming home to die and it was he himself who was going to have to end her life. he acted like any father who had to go through that would act....miserable/in anguish.

reply

How about be PISSED and rip some zombies heads off!

reply

See that *beep* would have ruined the movie for me. It's a drama, it's advertised as a DRAMA. I love Arnold, one of my favorite actors, but I knew what was supposed to happen in this movie. I researched it a little. Killing the zombies on screen would have been fine, but it was definitely not necessary. It probably would have ruined the mood of the movie.

reply

mns, please tell me you're joking. you've seen one too many zombie/action films. yes, there are some people in the world who would have gone around being pissed and "ripping some zombie's heads off" but there are many other people in the world who would have kept their actions/behavior measured and behaved the way Arnie dose in the film. this was advertised as a DRAMA, not an action film.

reply

mns, please tell me you're joking. you've seen one too many zombie/action films

Definitely not joking. Yes I've seen a few zombie movies and forgive me for wanting to see a zombie movie starring ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER tearing up some zombies. I get that it was a DRAMA, but why not show an angry side of Arnold's character? Why label this a zombie movie at all?

Just remember the OP Biggest Action star in Movie history vs Zombies = boring Artsy crap There are those of us who would have liked to see something more from this movie considering who the main character is.

reply

well said mns-05119. total mis-match

reply

not really king. anyone who bothered to take 10 seconds out of their precious day to research what the movie was about would have known that this was a DRAMA and not a action zombie movie. it just makes you guys look lazy or ignorant.

reply

mns, no offense but the fact you didn't even put 10 seconds into seeing what this movie was about makes you look either lazy or silly. which one is it? NOTHING in the trailers or synopsis for this film makes it look like Arnie is going to be tearing up zombies. not one frame of footage.

reply

@jjett123

First off, all I'm saying is some realistic anger wouldn't seem out of place in this movie. It's a drama, but who said you can't have a little violence? Instead you DON'T SEE Arnold chop up a couple of zombies who are just standing in the woods and really not a threat, no the camera turns away.

Second, no I didn't do as much research on this movie as you did. I didn't pay to see this, saw it on the internet. Didn't have any expectations but was still disappointed.

Third, the thread for this post is clearly for those of us who don't understand why Mr. Arnold, AKA the Terminator, AKA Conan, AKA Predator killing Schwarzenegger was cast for this.

reply

Just a quick response to all of you who didn't care to see Ah-nuld in this film.

Disclosure: I've been a massive fan of Mr.S for eons - right from the Pumping Iron days, it was obvious to everyone the guy was destined for stardom. And in fact, Predator remains one of my all-time favorite films, and not just as an action/sci-fi flick.

I totally get what you folks are saying, I really do and I don't completely disagree.

But those of you complaining about Arnie being cast in this film seem to be forgetting something:

Arnold WANTED to be in this film in addition to the producers wanting to cast him.

You really can't knock the guy for maybe wanting to stretch his acting chops a bit once in a while and play against type now that he's done being the Governator. Especially as he is getting on in years.

After all, he IS an ACTOR. :)

Remember Kindergarten Cop? Twins?

Stallone kinda did the same thing a while back with Copland.

Just wanted to point this out...

You obviously don't know what a "drama" is. To say you knew you KNEW it was a drama movie and then you come here and bash it for being just that means you need a new brain because yours is about as dead as.....a zombie.

But seriously, if EVERY movie in the zombie genre was the same it'd be stale by now. You're obviously one of those r-tards who can't accept change in movies and entertainment. What's it like living in the past?

reply

jjett123, thank you! Seriously guys, it's just a different take on this situation. I'm personally sick of seeing the same thing over and over again. I liked it's weird suspense/drama whatever you wanna call it feel. I had one complaint, but I honestly forgot what it was. Something small. Whatever. I enjoyed it anyway, but I can understand why some wouldn't like it, but just because it's not what you wanted doesn't make it crap. I mean, Transformers wasn't what we wanted, and it IS crap, but at least this was fresh and different, and was enjoyable if you actually like movies in general and like these artistic films and not just mindless action (pun intended). It is actually a good movie, whether you like it or not. I mean, Schindler's List is an excellent movie, I would say one of the best films ever made, and same for the Shawshank Redemption. That being said, I am not a huge fan of either. But I don't hate on them. But whatever. To each his proverbial own.

(also, no I am not comparing this to the two films I just mentioned, so let's not get into a debate about that. And yeah, your jab about "because your actually comparing it to Transformers", forget it)

This right here, hits the nail on the head.

IDIOT...

reply

grow up, kiddo.

reply

Fu*k forbid Arnold wants to try something else with his career instead of making the same tired movie you've already seen 400 times. I'm also equally apologetic that you had to be exposed to "art" for a few minutes.

reply

Arnie was good. Kept his mouth shut and acted stoic. The rest of the movie was slow and boring. The last of us did this kinda thing better than the movie tbh.

reply

I can't believe i wasted my time watching this movie, i didn't stop hoping it would get better or make it worh while the time i wasted watching it but dear lord i wanted to shoot myself i have seen boring movies in my time this one takes the cake, like always the trailer makes it look like its gonna be something good wow biggest crapfest ever.... i saw they spent 4 million on a budget??/ really! wish i had 4 million dollars to throw away like that im just completely speechless for those who enjoyed the movie def must not be real zombie fans because i went into this thinking it was going to be some sweet zombie movie with arnold in it, man o man.....

reply

@ reddragon211981

I agree with everything you just said, but boy o boy are you going to get it. This movie has a fan base that defends this movie hard, which is fine but nice to see that I wasn't the only one who didn't like this. Thought it was kind of stupid actually that the daughter goes back home with the stepmom and young siblings and doesn't even bother to cover up her NASTY ARSE arm. Then you see her go out to a nice little get together with her friends and zombie boyfriend....? Guess nobody really took the zombies all that serious and why would they? They just sort of walked around groaning, the father/daughter in the woods were like that anyway.

reply

LOL!!!! Oh i know i am going to get it alright but it would make up for the action i was expecting on the movie atleast this way when the so call fan scream at me i will get some fun out of it >:) i know we all have different taste and like what we like but the trailer was really deceiving or how ever you spell it, i honestly thought i wwas walking into a cool bad ass zombie flick and what i got was hell i don't even know what it was all i know is next time i can't get any sleep ill put this movie on and i am bound to get a good night sleep.
