When Maggie kisses her dad at the end of the movie, was Wade pretending to be asleep?
Seemed like he knew she was there. Almost as if he wanted her to bite him so he wouldn't have to go through with killing her. He got up and loaded his weapon straight after she left.

I believe so, and besides that you can actually see his fingers moving near the shotgun.
And when he gets up he is crying, his eyes are wet, possibly from the restrain/pain while waiting to see the outcome of her approach.

Yes, it was also the moment that rescued the movie from being totally ineffectual. There is one odd detail though:
He was prepared for everything and had the gun in his hand. You can argue, wether he wanted to trust her, or he just couldn't pull it off to make it quick.
Or maybe he couldn't be without her and would have accepted to be bitten...

Amazing scene in a wonderful film.
Both know this was the last time she won't bite. From then on it's only one option: one dies. He hears her struggle and knows his daughter has lost the fight.
He finally musters the strength to end it for her.
She kisses him goodbye and spares him the deed.

shareWade was pretending and he knew his gun wasn't loaded. He knew he couldn't kill her, from the beginning he knew that. Every single warning he received in the movie he ignored and even physically assaulted a cop over it. I think Maggie knew that which is why she ultimately killed herself.
