Hows Seth Green doing as Leo?

Haven't watched any of the new season yet, is he any good? Previous Leo Jason Biggs & movie Leo Johnny Knoxville have been awesome, is Seth as good as them?

reply

I think he's doing okay. He does sound more manly than Biggs.

Thit and thpin!

reply

So far so good. Definitely different, but he's been good. Just wish Leo could heal up some more instead of looking so vulnerable, then the change of voice wouldn't seem quite so dramatic. Once he's back to kicking butt I bet the voice starts to blend right in.

More manly than Biggs is a good way of putting it. Or at least more matured, weathered.

reply

Not so good so far, in my opinion. Leo doesn't sound like Leo with throat damage, he sounds suddenly older, and not-Leo. It's not just the change in voice-actor, it's that Seth's efforts so far don't remind me in any way of Leo.

If Seth would try to up the pitch of his voice and actually sound a bit more like a teenage mutant ninja turtle, then I'd be a bit happier. Right now, I'm kind of glad Leo has been shoved on the back-burner with almost no dialogue in these first two episodes. It might give Seth some time to practice.

reply

Honestly, he sounds like himself. He just there. Very uninspired casting so far. I'm waiting to see if he improves.

reply

Wow, just watched the latest two episodes. Not good. I like Seth Green but the problem is he sounds too drastically different to the previous Leo. Their "his throat has been damaged" comment is pretty hilarious. Seth's voice is portrayed as a disability... (apparently after a severe beating, you sound like Scott Evil). But good on them for trying & at least acknowledging it. Honestly, they shouldve kept the dude that replaced Biggs in the last few episodes of Season 2, he was perfect. The only good thing about this is that you can make out that Leo got so effed up in the bleak 'Empire Strikes Back'-like season finale that its completely changed who he is.

reply

Never thought about it but yeah it seems they're saying Leo been disable. So as long as Leo has Seth voice does that mean he's disable?

reply

His voice has permanently change since his voice box was damaged. Even after he heals up and everything, this will be his permanent speaking voice

reply

Yeah I'm not a huge fan of the change. I really like Seth Green! He is a really cool actor, but I liked everyone else that has voice Leo so far better. The just sounded like a courageous teenager like Leo should sound. Now he sounds kinda scruffy and scrappy like he maybe he would suit Raph more. Not that I would want that to happen! hahahah. I'm just hoping they really bring Leo back with a bang when he gets better, cause so far Leo has been lame ever since season 3 started and that is NOT helping Seth make a good Leo. It's giving off this wimpy lame feel because he has a different actor. But when he gets back to normal all that could change. Though I did like how they acknowledged his voice change cause when its a huge change like that its just super awkward when they just pretend like it never happened.

reply

Bet if they had to go back and redo the orginal casting with the 4 actors they have now they would have put Seth as Raph's voice and Sean Astin as Leo, Scott Evil would make a good Raph and Sean could play any of the turtles imo.

I don't want to judge yet. Leo's supposed to sound beaten and down right now. The deeper more weathered voice could also be attributed to the rapid maturation that the traumatic Krang invasion brought on him as a character alongside the throat injury explanation. It's really hard to criticize Seth for not putting much into it since it takes a lot of his will power for Leo to even speak. Maybe when Leo starts having a wider range of emotions other than "wow I got the crap kicked out of me, does this mean I'm not good enough" it'll be easier to judge.

reply

or we can just call it what it is....he was a really, really, really bad choice for Leo.

Just a thought.

reply

That's pretty funny actually. My nephew recognized that Leo's voice sounded different and thought he sounded like that because of an injury from that fight. I don't mind his voice though, I like Seth.

Takin' out the trash, trailer park style!!

reply

Not manly, seth greeny...when i watched the episodes i pictured austin powers or any other movie hes been in. I cant say anything that hasnt already been said though. I think youve all pretty well covered the topic. I came here because i had a feeling i wasnt the only one with an opinion on the matter.

reply

Totally agree.I couldn't get his face out of my head

reply

He SUCKS!!!!!!!

Oh, did I mention.....he SUCKS!!!!!!!!

reply

Personally, I know a lot of folks don't like what he's doing, but in this most recent episode, Leo seems to be fully recovered and Seth voiced him as such and sounds pretty good.

reply

I was optimistic at first, because I had the voices Seth had in Without a Paddle or Enemy of the State in my head, but what we are hearing in the TMNT show is just, off. THat is not Leo. Did they even do any auditions before signing the guy on?

reply

I like his voice. It has more of a cartoon feel to it than Biggs's voice and it has also a nice leadership quality to it.

reply

Well, being the guy who plays Chris Griffin on Family Guy and the "brains" beyond Robot Chicken, naturally he's going to come in w/ more of a "cartoon-feel". 😩

reply

He still blows!!!

Even my kids can't stand Leo's new voice.

reply

I really dislike the casting of Seth as Leo too. It is just wrong for the character. Agree with you on the disability front. Seeing him so crippled this way stinks. I saw the ep he regained a bit of his old abilities, but the voice just isn't growing on me. Oh well. Won't be the first time a voice actor casting change for TMNT threw us fans for a loop....Long time turtle fan here. 😝

reply

I re-watched The Pig and the Rhino and Cowabunga Shredhead from the original series recently and I realized that Seth's voice reminds me of Cam Clarke's but with a deeper tone. I really like it.

reply

It took a few episodes for me not to see his face in my brain when he spoke, but now I don't even remember that it is him. I think he's doing a great job, really pleased with it.

reply

I have to admit, particularly in this very last episode, his voice finally seems to be settling into something that actually blends in with the rest of the crew. Either they've filtered the low-end out of his voice, or he's acting younger. Either way, it's an improvement.
