Why are the 80's turtles always misrepresented?
First it was Turtles Forever, now it is this version of TNMT.

shareI think their portrayal in TF and this episode was accurate. Sure, the '87 turtles had occasional moments of seriousness, but it was very infrequent.
Thit and thpin!
I thought they were so much better in this episode than in Turtles Forever. So much more in character.
I really didn't like the animation for the 80's universe here though. It looked so much better in Turtles Forever.

Moderators are terrorists.
The bit of backstory for 80s Krang was pretty nice, and the way the writers connected the previous appearance of 80s turtles was as well. The Mirage turtles were an added bonus.
I think this could have easily been a 2 part episode, but I'll take what I can get.
80s turtles looked sweet in 3D and so did the '12 turtles in 2D.
I loved this episode, one of my series favorites, right up there with the Dream Beavers ep and the Pizzaface episode.
I should also mention that for this episode, Nick created a fun flash game to play based on the old Konami 4 player Turtles arcade game.

Because by ridiculing the 80's series, they make the current show look more serious, smarter and better.
At least it made a bit of sense with the serious tone of the 2003 show, but when the 2012 show is as stupid, silly and poorly animated as anything the old cartoon did it just got embarrassing.
1987 Raph: "I think I'm ganna like puttin' some more cracks in this imposter's shell. Hehe, heh"
Those guys sounded pretty good to me. 😃
While Turtles Forever did treat the 80s turtles as a joke. This show got them right.

It did treat them a little better, at least. It made Krang into a complete joke, though.
shareBecause this is how fans weaned off the new shows would see the 80s cartoon. Which, let's be honest, really WAS simple, shallow, and silly for the most part (especially after the semi-outrage over the first movie). Though to be fair, that's exactly what ALL cartoons back were like then. They didn't want to tell an overarching, deep story; they were just there to entertain children (and, okay, sell toys)
Though at least TMNT 2012 treated them with more respect than Turtles Forever.
Though now I wonder what would happen if the 2012 crew crossed paths with the 2003 gang (or even the Next Mutation)
While a lot of the 80's show was like that, not all of it was. The first and later seasons are quite different both in tone, style, storytelling and content.
And - let's be honest here too - while the 2003 show was much more "serious", the 2012 show is often equally silly if not more so. And as for being simple and shallow, it is hardly Berlin Alexanderplatz either.
I grew up with TMNT since the 80s turtles. & loved all those movies & shows (Even next Mutation even though it had horror writing I could see the potential that was passed on) I would love to see the 2012 turtles work with the 80s & 2003 turtles & the Mirage Turtles. kinda like a Turtles forever redo. I just wish i was able to get my hands on the Mirage TMNT Series & the IDW Series. I read up on the plots & how the Characters are but it would be nice to read the stories themselves. I wish Nickelodeon would do one of those big hard cover books filled with all the Mirage Turtle Comics & one for the IDW Series like MArvel & DC Does.

You mean 80's Krang wasn't a complete joke who just nagged all the time and never actually did anything beyond the first five episodes? If anything, they made Krang way more competent and battle-ready than he was in the 80's, and showed how formidable he could be if he hadn't been hamstrung by the practices back then and the necessity of keeping Shredder around.
They did dumb him down just a hair, but even 80's Krang wasn't all that smart; it was just that his minions were more idiotic.
Krang was often something of a joke in the 80's show, but they made him a complete joke. Sort of like they did with the turtles and bad guys in TMNT Forever.
And do you honestly mean the 2012 kraang are less of a joke? What have they accomplished, kidnapping April's dad? The 80's antagonists did equivalent things every other episode.
I also don't think it's fair to retcon out the first and last seasons of the 80's show like they didn't happen. I agree though about how the show was "hamstrung by the practices back then". It's a shame, too.
Because the old Turtles are goofy as all hell?
I've tried watching the old show repeatedly as a grown-up, and I can't. Even by 80's cartoon standards, it's silly. I'll give kudos to the new show for not having the "Turn to Camera, Wink Wink Wink"-4th wall breaking in the latest episode that the old show was so damn fond of.
for the sake of jokes.
If I didn’t talk the way I talk I wouldn’t know who the hell I am, Sean Connery on his accent
The 87' series was fairly campy, but the turtles weren't complete imbeciles. I don't really like how they're portrayed especially in Turtles Forever (at least the 2012 TMNT didn't make them into retards). They were goofy yeah, but not stupid.
