See it at the theatres

Now that it's available on streaming, I'd recommend against watching it at home... or at least watch it at the theatres first.

This movie has an amazing look. It's what a Batman movie made in the 70s would have looked like. The gloomy muted colours and the grainy look are what give it a unique neo-noir look. It shows up beautifully in certain scenes... I'll let you discover them for yourselves, if you haven't already.

The director went through a pretty technical process to nail this look, converting between film, digital, back to film, etc.

The problem with watching it at home is that HDTVs are typically designed to over-exagerate saturation and colours. Particularly true of recent TVs that have built in HDR. You'll loose a lot of the visual effect that the director was going for, unless you jump through some hoops to tweak your settings. Most viewers won't bother.

I don't own a 4K TV, but that might compound the problem if it upscales the picture from HD to 4K. It'll increase the sharpness and overcome the film grain look that the director was trying to achieve.

Sidebar: I remember being disappointed in the original LOTR movies when I watched them on my TV after first seeing them at the theatre. The digital matte inserts on a lot of those sweeping vista scenes were plainly obvious. I didn't notice them when I saw them at the theatre though. I think the sharpness / clarity settings of my TV exposed the boundary between the digital mattes and the actual film.

I still like LOTR at home, but yeah, The Batman is certainly a great movie and would be best scene on the big screen.

The benefits of watching it at home out weigh the problems with a theater... It's a lot cheaper and the movie isn't worth the price of a ticket, at home you can turn on the subtitles and actually understand Pattinson's god awful attempt to out Christian Bale, Bale's voice, and best of all your more comfortable at home when you fall asleep trying to watch it.
