Why was Harry dying so quickly?

What was going on here?

Norman - his father - dies after telling Harry it's a genetically inherited condition. Yet he's clearly about 30 years older than Harry.

So what's going on? How come Harry's so desperate he injects himself even although he should have years and years to play with...

He was a victim of bad writing?

Possibly. Or it could be that this is a plot hole...

Not really a hole, because there weren't any rules established regarding the illness. Maybe it manifest very young occasionally, who knows? It's a major driving force for the plot though, and we shouldn't be forced to guess, which is ultimately at the feet of the writers.

I like this movie yet always thought it was bullcrap Norman Osborn was said to be sick and dying in the first one. Then instead of having him become the Green Goblin in a more monstrous way with the Lizard formula from the first movie he instead just dies and Harry is given his disease to become the villain. Really feels like a waste of a good villian. I liked that they had Harry Kill Gwen at the end cause it's unlikely the death of Gwen Stacy would ever get adapted again but it's still a bit bullcrap.
