Even Andrew Garfield Admits This Movie Was Awful

GARFIELD Suggests Studio Cuts Led to AMAZING 2 Woes (by Chris Arrant, Newsarama Contributor)

Didn’t like Amazing Spider-Man 2? Actor Andrew Garfield feels you, bro.

Garfield, who starred as the titular character in this summer’s disappointing tentpole, spoke out about studio interference, which he suggests compromised the non-so-well-received sequel.

In an aside during a Daily Beast interview promoting his upcoming film 99 Homes, the young actor pointed out multiple factors that might have contributed to the dour response to the film compared to previous outings.

Garfield says...

"I think what happened was, through the pre-production, production, and post-production, when you have something that works as a whole, and then you start removing portions of it—because there was even more of it than was in the final cut, and everything was related. Once you start removing things and saying, ‘No, that doesn’t work,’ then the thread is broken"

“We can’t go, ‘Oh God, we *beep* up because all these people are saying all these things. It’s s**t."

The movie was brain damaged from the script stage. Anyone saying otherwise is just making excuses. Even Garfield knows it's a bad final effort. You don't come forth and make excuses unless you know how bad it turned out.

That's why Marvel will re-cast for sure if they can indeed cut a deal with Sony to bring Spidey to the MCU.

reply

Even fans that love the character just hate this movie.

Just hate it.

reply

That's why you don't need a "10 reasons" list.

reply

He should blame himself and fans should take blame if they paid to see this more than once.

reply

Of course Garfield is going to blame editing on the poor performance.

He's probably saying that he didn't get enough screen time either...

reply

At least Garfield cares enough to make excuses. You don't see actors like Shia or Jamie Foxx even bothering to make excuses.

reply

This is coming from the same person who expressed his opinion about how there should be a Gay spiderman;i'd take whatever he says with a grain of salt .

Let face it, people hate art movies. Especially when they are not expecting an art movie

reply

Who said there should be a gay Spider-Man?

reply

He suggested that there should be a gay spiderman :Lame:

Quality in art is not merely a matter of personal opinion but to a high degree objectively traceabl

reply

His suggestion must have hit home with the writers because they wrote a lot of the dialogue that way.

He didnt say there should be one, what he said was the idea would be interesting.

When theres no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.

reply

Any the idea would be insane. Just goes to show you Garfield's taste or lack thereof.

reply

Why are you so scared of gay people?
Trying to remember what's the word for it...

reply

Poor Garfield. All that's left is comic con conventions twenty years from now.

reply

I thought it was a great superhero film. I disagree with Garfield, though I thought he was terrific in the film.

A movie is a commercial success if it makes back double the production budget

reply

It's interesting to see how more than once, Garfield reacts with much nicer manner, to how much these movies are awful. It's really quite astounding.

reply

And now he's lost Emma Stone in real life. Now THAT is a tragedy.

reply

Garfield was actually one of the main problems-a thirty year old playing a teen never works

reply

Why not write it for a 24 year old Spider-Man? Why can he ever grow up?

reply

Yes. His Peter should have been in college. Some of the best stories are from his college days.

That's right. I hate white women. Call me a racist. I don't care, you buttholes.

You can say that again. What a stinker.
