Is if the opening story in the first episode is about the disappearance of Malaysian Air Flight 370, and we find out that Jim and Maggie were on it.

I thought the entire series was wrapped up nicely in season 3. I walked away from it content and it didn't ruin my enjoyment of the show (which is unfortunately a common occurrence these days when it comes to a series finale).

And unlike you, I like Jim and Maggie. Their saga was dragged out a little too long but I was happy where their stories ended.
