Lol no offense but there is something odd about you noticing Tarantino because of Ennio Morricone - he is a splendid producer, but Tarantino has been among the best writers in Hollywood since Reservior Dogs and Pulp Fiction put him on the map.
Jackie Brown was brilliant, and he really hit his stride it seems with Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2, followed up by Inglorious Basterds, Django Unchained and now Hateful Eight... I honestly don't know how you didn't take notice until Hateful Eight, in my opinion his worst movie since Dusk til Dawn... and I still seriously love those films, but H8 is his weekest.
Sorkin films are driven by dialogue, but Tarantino films are driven by dialogue and stylized action.
Tarantino maps out his action sequences in every script he writes, they are a thrill to read, and it really shows in the final product.
Don't forget, he directs all of his films too - Sorkin is brilliant for sure, his dialogue is unmatched, even by Tarantino (though their styles are obviously different) - but the fact the Tarantino directs also makes him the big dog between the two of them.
And no, you are correct, any political drama would surely end up more like Inglorious Basterds than anything by Sorkin - bloody, violent, stylized. Would be great to see Tarantino do a walk and talk... BUT, while both Tarantino and Sorkin characters speak unrealistically... you could not blend styles, Sorkin is fast, witty, rhythmic almost. Tarantino is outrageous, over-exaggerative, cartoony to an extent, while still having great rhythm.
Without a doubt, both are my favorite writers, so it's cool to hear that one can appreciate the other.
