John Hawkes did NOT deserve any Academy recognition...

Please, stop with the "John Hawkes deserved an Oscar" crap.

Get off your ignorant asses and go watch The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.

Report back to me when you formulated a logical argument how Hawkes could even come close to Mathieu Amalric's performance.

Erm i reckon that quite a few people have seen both films (me included) and im not going to compare the perfomances as its irrelavent. Its not like they are going up against each other in the same year or anything, its not even like they suffer from the same condition. Maybe you should concentrate on the characters they are portraying rather than forcing comparisions just because two actors are playing someone with a disability.

I think Hawkes was very good here and he contines to show great versatility and gives a memorable perfomance despite being hamstrung by the script in some places. I dont think its the best perfomance of the year and i dont even think it was the biggest ommision from the best actor category (see Jean-Louis Trintignant) but if someone wanted to argue Hawkes deserved a nomination i'd probably agree with them to some extent

Appreciate the response, but you gave two paragraphs explaining why we shouldn't compare characters, not explaining why Hawke had a better performance.

reply

Because I dont think his performance was necessarily better. But I think he may deserve a nomination.

I report back to nobody..

reply

I disagree. He was great, and so was Helen. It was a team effort.
