The ending.

I don't have a problem with sad/bittersweet endings. It's just that this movie wasn't really building up to that. His death was revealed to us the audience in such a sudden way. We didn't even see 5 minutes of him and his new girlfriend. And it kinda goes against the rest of the movie, which is so light in tone. Really, would the real MARK want us to leave the theatre without a smile on our faces?

I think the movie should've opened with his funeral, then go back and tell the whole movie exactly how it was, and end with his funeral again but on a more positive note.

Thoughts?

Yeah the movie should have opened with the funeral or showing his corpse in the ground. The way it ended kind of skipped over a bunch of years. He was 38 when all this happened and then died at 49. Another reason why this movie was edited and ploted poorly.

Something like:

1. Show his gravestone
2. Introduce him talking
3. Tell the audience, that is me in the ground and then start talking about his life

It provided a nice summation to the tale and allowed the women who had loved him come together.

It allowed for the lovely scene of Susan reading the poem in church with the small nod at the end to Helen's character.

I thought it ended the film perfectly.

I was just confused because it said 5 years later and it said he was 49. Wouldn't he only be 43? Btw, I think his "new girlfriend" killed him o.o

They are one person, They are two alone, They are three together, They are for each other

What do you mean? I used the spoiler tags. Besides, the title of the thread is warning enough.

IMDB_Vits,

You want us to spoil the end of every movie out there?

Very silly post

WHAT are you talking about???

I'm going to disagree. Even though it ends with a funeral I was still smiling. It was so sweet, if a bit cheesy. He died happy and in love.I thought it was nice and as I said I left smiling in that bittersweet way.

"Ich lüge" is German for "I'm lying".
