Just when you don't think DeNiro can't go any lower...

The trailer for this pile of sh!t comes out! This film looks absolutely horrendous! Not only were all the jokes complete sh!t, but it looks like a rip-off of so many other films. DeNiro is an embarrassment.

I agree. For a guy who did such classic films through the 70s and 90s, he sure has reached the bottom of the barrel in terms of what scripts he's willing to do. I said years ago that most likely his best work is behind him, and he's proving that with each movie he's doing lately.

reply

Totally agreed. I keep thinking he must be in huge debt to have to keep taking these *beep* movie roles. I know that's not possible so I'm not sure what else could cause him to give 2 s_hits about his legacy.

reply

You guys need to get a life. He can do whatever he wants. He's earned it. He's got nothing left to prove as an actor. I'm glad that he's willing to try anything and not limit himself to serious, Oscar-baity roles. So he does this. No one's seen it. Let's not judge before seeing it. I thought The Intern was good and he was good in it. He's got Joy for your Oscar consideration. He just finished Wizards of Lie for your Emmy consideration. Then there's Hands of Stone, which looks promising. He's about to start The Comedian. That looks like an Oscar-worthy role. Then there's the Scorsese film with Pacino and Pesci looming in the horizon. So relax, he's got everything under control. LOL

reply

I agree. And there's also the consideration that, maybe, he just likes to work. And let's face it, how many Oscar-potential scripts does he get offered each year?

reply

Who said anything about Oscar bait roles? There are lots of good movies that aren't Oscar material but DeNiro doesn't star in those any more. He used to. He's done good non-Oscar candidate roles like Midnight Run but now he just does trash and David O. Russel films. He can do what he wants, it's just baffling that a guy who is so famous and so talented chooses to keep doing cynical crap like this.

reply

De Niro himself has now answered the question about why he accepted this role:

“I just liked the idea of doing something that was crazy and out there and different [from what I’ve done] and so I said ‘Why not?’” De Niro says with a shrug. “I just thought ‘I’ll just do it and hopefully people like it.’ It’s irreverent and a little out there—but what the hell.”

reply

All DeNiro is doing is tarnishing his legacy with garbage like this.

Do you think he gives a *beep*?

Of course he doesn't. That's precisely why he keeps doing garbage like this. He doesn't care about his legacy. And that's okay. It's his career, his legacy to trash.

Bobby

Why do people talk like they're buddies with celebrities?

And I really really hoped I wouldn't die

reply

"Leave my friend Bobby alone!"

But maybe he does. It's just that he realizes that his great movies will always be great and will be remembered as such, regardless of how many lesser movies he makes. Very few of the great movie actors have starred ONLY in great movies. They all have the also-rans and the straight-to-video projects on their record. Yet they are still recognized as great movie actors and always will be.

And how many great movies are made each year? One? Two? Maybe even three? And De Niro can't star in all of them, he can only play a 75-year-old guy, which severely limits the possibilities. De Niro can sit at home, waiting a few more years for the next great role he can play, or he can get out there, keep working, interact with the new generation of movie actors. Maybe he likes working with young people.

I'm sure Zac Efron signed up for this project because he would do any movie that let him work with De Niro. But has anyone thought: Maybe De Niro accepted this project because he got to work with Zac Efron?

reply

I think he already did his classic movies. Proved that his one of the best actors to ever live. So I think he just wants to have fun now and continue working. I don't see anything bad about it. I still love the guy. He is incredibly charismatic.

reply

It might also be worth noting that, however bad a movie is, De Niro himself is never bad. Maybe he sees these projects as a charity mission - adding a little class to otherwise weightless movies.

reply

I love Bobby D but I dunno about this. I just watched the new red band trailer and there's something just off about his delivery of his one liners. Seems so forced, so over the top trying to hard or something. Hard to put a finger on.

reply

I hope he got paid a CRAP load of money for this !!!!!

I agree with you. 100%

It's all part of Hollywood's ploy to drive the point home that a man is never too old to get starring roles in sh-t films.

reply

yeah, it looks *beep* but i'd still rather watch "dirty grandpa" than "the intern".

reply

Who cares if he gives a shyt? We do! Because we love Bobby D!

"Jesus, does anyone?"
