Woody rips off The Flintstones(original series)

Sorry, late to the party re To Rome With Love; nobody remembers this:

S4, Ep6
Oct. 24, 1963
The Flintstone Canaries
The barbershop quartet Fred organizes to advertise "Soft Soap" is a bathtub quartet, because Barney can carry a tune only when he's in the tub.

reply

You're joking, right? You can't be that dumb.

reply

The theory (or joke, if you prefer) that most people can only carry a tune while in the shower or while in the tub has been around for as long as there have been showers and tubs. Hardly a rip-off by Woody or anyone else for that matter.

You've done some bad things, sweetie.

reply

I thought of the Flintstones Softsoap episode throughout the entire film. It was the same situation with the same resolution!

There are only so many plot devices in movies, plays, books etc. unless you want to be utterly ridiculous. Ergo, "Ten Things I hate About You, a teenage movie is "The Taming of the Shrew."

Think how many times Shakespeare has been recycled. And even Shakespeare got material from earlier Italian plays and books.

I don't know everything. Neither do you.

absolutely correct! barney was rejected because of his normally bad singing voice until fred hears him sing in the shower, where the little guy does a virtuoso performance.

Think this plot twist goes back even farther to some 40's short subject of similar theme.
