Well, if Blade Runner 2049 lacks something, it is by no means great direction. Villeneuve most certainly deserved a nom but it’s no surprise he wasn’t recognized for a film like this. Furthermore, if getting nominations for the awards that “don’t matter” dictates the quality of this film, then it’s worth noting this sequel got more noms than the highly acclaimed original. And yes it deserved them all for very good reasons.
