Deckard Being a Replicant, Yet Appearing In 2049

If a lot of people (including either Ford or Scott, I forgot who said) believe the theory about Deckard being a replicant, would him appearing in this movie (which takes place 30 years after the original) debunk that, then? Or is there some way they are going to incorporate his character in a way that would not contradict that (perhaps a possible life extension found, despite Tyrell's statements to Roy)?

1) Because he was made to be more human than human, Deckard didn't need a fail-safe device. Just like everyone of us, he goes through life thinking he's human. Plus, he has no dangerous superhuman physical abilities, so there is no risk involved.

2) The older Deckard in the sequel might be the original Blade Runner that stood model for the synthetic version of the first movie.

I guess Harrison Ford will play something like the original human that Deckard was based on or something, but this is Ridley Scott and it's impossible for him to make sensible sequels so he will probably disregard everything that happened in the original Blade Runner or make the theatrical version the official version, which it actually is. Either way it's going to be a mess, this guy lost it decades ago.

Deckard is not a replicant.

Watch the movie again, Lucky_Man!

I've seen it plenty. I used to ascribe to the "Deckard was a replicant" theory, but ultimately I think it depreciates the strongest themes of the film.

The unicorn origami was the question, not the answer.

Even if Deckard was a Replicant, it's no issue that he has lived beyond the 4 year time limit. In the original release of the film, Deckard mentions at the end of the film that Tyrell had told him Rachel was special and not built with the set time limit. Deckard states the he didn't know how long she had to live. So, he may have been of the same build as her!

reply

Yes. That's what I figured also, since Rachael or Sean Young doesn't reprise I imagine she lived longer but not to year 2049 and Rick Deckard does making him either more "Very special" or human?

Either way Deckard knew his special love Rachael was "spared" from termination as an experiment that out-lived the replicant's of 4 year life span's but wasn't built or made to last.

So Deckard is the "key" to whom ever Ryan Gosling the lead character IS to not only still deal and pursue these sentient artifical beings but also find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) for some knowledge and help ?

Deckard is not a Replicant. Furthermore, the story is weaker if he is...

Indeed, the human learning to be human again by observing what an "artificial being" does during its mayfly-long lifespan is a strong message. An "artificial being" slowly becoming more human-like in behavior is far less unique by comparison.

I like that.

Totally agree with Wesker, he's not a replicant, and if he were to be it would ruin a lot of the messages the film gives.

I never bought that he was a replicant.

The villainy you teach me I will execute-and it shall go hard but I will better the instruction.

Damn you people are absolutely ridiculous. He. Is. A. Replicant. End of f--king story. Do you need another 30 some odd years for it to sink the f--k in?
