Do You Feel For The Replicants?

Replicants were never simply nuts and bolts robots, they were genetically engineered artificial lifeforms. Thats what the Tyrell corporation was all about, genetic engineering. Making them to do all the dirty work them killing them after 4 years because they will develop emotions is pretty horrendous when you stop tho think about it. Its a pity the first film didn't make that point a little more strongly, it was more of a detective film than a tragic one it should have been.

I totally disagree the scene with Rachel and end scene with Roy deal with that topic. though it was a detective movie it's a detective movie about robots with feelings and touches on the philosophy of sentience and of life and mortality from both sides of the coin.

No because they are essentially psychopaths. They kill without emotion or mercy. OK it's not their fault thar they were created to have limited emotional responses but it doesn't mean I have to feel sorry for them. I'd shoot them in the back then be home in time for cornflakes. Never get emotionally involved with a rep, rule number one.

I feel sorry for them. They were basically designed to serve man and made so closely to resemble mankind, but were given implanted feelings that were not really their own, nor were they allowed to learn and grow from their experiences due to the limited lifespan. They basically serve a purpose but that's it.

Despite being a combat model, Roy Batty does not kill Deckard because he actually does have the ability to reason and value any life. But he is robbed of the chance of becoming anything better because he wasn't built to last. Planned obsolescence, in short.

Rachel showed no violent tendencies except when she killed Leon but that was only to help Deckard. It would have been interesting to see her develop as a replicant, if she were allowed to.

Leon seems to have devious tendencies and was never really shown doing anything good. Again, was that his natural design or his desperate behavior as a result of wanting a longer life?

Same with Pris attacking Deckard... She was basically defending herself by that point because he was going to retire her.

It's not all black and white, but if reps were created to be more human than human then arguably they would or should have the same basic rights to live providing they aren't committing crime, etc. They're either a benefit or a hazard, after all.

If you don't feel sorry for them, consider this: imagine being created solely to serve someone's purposes, only to be thrown away when they are done with you. I would think that's pretty demoralizing to say the least.
