Villenueve is a better director than Ridley Scott
I really think that. While Scott is amazing, Villenueve is mind-blowing. The sequel will be better than the original. There, I said it. Villenueve is better at telling stories, no doubt.

shareYou are *beep* idiot.
shareWell i'm gonna give Scott another chance with Alien Covenant. But thats it...its gonna be a last chance. Cause Prometheus and some of his other recent movies have been a real mess. Hes having issues with scripts, writers, bad casting choices etc.
Let Ridley possibly mess up another Alien movie, while we get an actual solid sequel to a movie that really didn't need one. Villenueve is showing he is a solid director, but he has a little ways to go before being a serious legend. BR will do that in my eyes, if it's good then he will have pulled off the near impossible.
Prometheus was still extremely watchable but a disappointment and one of the last nails in the coffin for Scott.
The Counselor WAS the last nail. What a God awful piece of *beep*
Exodus God and Kings was more or less watchable trash as well.
I won't deny that he's made some great films but I think he's losing it in his age.
To say that Villenueve is better... I don't know how that can be said... he hardly has the resume to compare to Scott.
Exodus is probably Scott's worst movie by a landslide.
I'm in a minority that thinks The Counselor is one of his best.

The Counselor was incredible!!!
shareSad but true.

The sequel has almost no chance to be as good as the original. Blade Runner is one of the greatest stories ever told on the big screen. Almost everything about it is perfect, from the direction and the screenplay (based on one of stories of the legendary Philip K. Dick), to the cinematography and the performances.
That Tears in the Rain monologue alone is going to be hard to top. Then comes the divine score from Vangelis. There is so much to Blade Runner, so much that contributes to its greatness. I don't think anyone can create that magic again.
And no Villeneuve is not better, at-least not yet. He hasn't made Alien or Blade Runner.
Villenueve is mind-blowing
Feel better?
Whatever you are, be a good one.
I think he's well past his prime, by a few decades, and that he REALLY relies on a good script, actors, designers, etc. I just feel like Ridley hasn't really tried that hard in a very long time.
sharePast his prime while trying to keep up with the times and current trends.
There were big expectations for Prometheus and while visually it was amazing it fell way short of what people were led to believe it would be.
That's being kind considering some of the awful plot holes and utter stupidity of the characters.
Sir Ridley Scott is far better.
Sir Ridley Scott had directed, at least, 6 masterpieces. He has 4 Oscar Nominations and he is One of The Greatest Directors of All Time.
Denis Villeneuve is a nobody. Just like christopher nolan.
SIR RIDLEY SCOTT, THE CARTEL, WRAITHS OF THE BROKEN LAND, JOSE MOURINHO, CRISTIANO RONALDO, etc....
danpivalwil:
Nolan is hardly a "nobody"--he's directed some of the biggest movie franchises ever (the Batman series) many other films, and had a huge summer hit with DUNKIRK. So he's hardly a "nobody" as you put it.
Today he is for sure but not when Ridley was younger....Ridleys first blade runner pisses all over Villenueve but Ridley today is a fucking mess...his Ailien franschise is getting worse with each movie.
shareIt's an insult comparing the two. Look at Scott's war chest!! I think he was bullied into Alien Covenant because the studios wanted him to set-up a sequel. It's all about money.
