Director Dennis Villeneuve confirms R-rating (link)

Director Dennis Villeneuve had the following to say about the film's rating:

"My producers are finding it fun to remind me that it will be one of the most expensive R-rated independent feature films ever made."

I have to say: I find that fun too 

Thank goodness!

Just let Dennis make his movie the way he wants, no interference this time please. No pulling bs like star wars with the re-shoots that changed the entire second half.

Just wait WB will step to edit for a pg-13 cut just like how they keep *beep* up DC Comics Universe when will this idiots at Hollywood learn that they will have more people going to theaters if they let the director actually do their jobs.

Given that reshoots actually brought the film closer to Gareth Edwards' original vision (which he was afraid to go with because he thought Disney would say "no"), I'm pretty sure that reshoots, at the very least, didn't harm the film.

'Blade Runner 2049' is from Alcon, not Warner Brothers.

And the director actually made 'Prisoners' under Alcon, and that film is R-rated.

when will this idiots at Hollywood learn that they will have more people going to theaters if they let the director actually do their jobs.

I have a counter argument for that - 'Star Wars' prequel trilogy.

How expensive? Like what range we talking about?

I remember seeing a $120 million figure, which indeed would make it the most expensive R-raed independent film in existence.

Whatever you are, be a good one.

Let's hope it doesn't get pulled from him and edited down at the last minute

I'm optimistic there's a small chance for that, given that it is an "independent" picture and that Ridley is executive producing. Ridley Scott is one of the very few directors who is still able to make big budget movies aiming for an audience that is above 13 years of age.

Well, this is still a studio production, but given that Alcon is an independent studio, you're still correct in some ways.

To be honest, I had no idea this was considered an independent picture until I read that interview with Villeneuve where he claims it is. So I was just citing him.
