Well, of course, Alien is great too but it's simply not as cerebral or as philosophical a film as Blade Runner is. Alien is horror, a genre that is readily understood by almost everyone. A child can enjoy Alien. Blade Runner, however, is one of the few sci-fi movies that demand more than eating popcorn while sitting in suspense. If your mind does not interact with the film's central themes of existentialism, or if you don't recognise the substance that lie beneath the surface (story), then it's really not so strange that lots of people find a films like Blade Runner or 2001: A Space Odyssey boring.
