As much as I love Villeneuve, this project should be at the hand of Refn

Nicholas Winding Refn

His deliberate, slow moving style (even more so than Denis) would've fit this project better.

Heck, the scene where Gosling finds Deckard already have an "Only God Forgives" vibe. And I am not just talking about the fact that the main actor is in it. The lighting is very similar.

You know the difference? Villenueve is actually a very good director. Aside from Drive, Refn is not a very good director at all. He gets too caught up with style and that's that. Villeneuve will actually make sure that a good story is brought to the screen.

reply

You mean he's more conventional. Refn is fully capable of making straight forward movies. The Pusher trilogy and Drive prove that. He just doesn't. He is more interested in form and style.

reply

Yeah. Pusher is an unbelievably brilliant film.

Frankly, no capable director should take a job jumping aboard a franchise. Visionaries create, hacks recreate.

Yeah I think he would have done a good job, we would have got a much stranger Blade Runner though. Which might have been a good thing, plus cliff martinez works with Refn and his soundtracks are some of the best i've heard the past several years. The Neon Demon soundtrack is my favorite of the year.

Refn is infinitely better than Hackque
