Who wants Frank to win, and get away with it all?

I really do want Frank to get away with it all. Triumph over everyone, his reputation and approval at record highs when he leaves office and Claire takes over. Final scene of the show, is the opening of Franks's presidential library in SC during Claire's second term. Frank the most admired and beloved president in a generation. THe final shot Frank and president Clair Underwood on stage together in triumph hands together. Hail to the chief plays and a 21 gun salute. as a montage of all of Frank's victims, dead, in jail, discredited, or defeated.

You must be a (D)emocrat.

reply

How exactly do you figure that? No, Democrats don't want Francis to get away with everything. I have no idea why you would think so, except maybe that you're not a Democrat and, judging from your response, you dislike people who aren't like you.

reply

Nope. I think it will probably be some variation of the way the British series ended.

Well, in the Brit version Urquhart does sort of get away with it, because his assassination is secretly arranged by his wife precisely in order to protect his reputation and create a lasting legacy; maybe a solution similar to this is alluded to in the US version with Claire breaking the fourth wall in the most recent ep, joining Frank in confiding in the audience...

Suprise! Nothing to see here

reply

Me too. It would be more interesting and satisfactory to me. It's also realistic - look at the Clintons...

The moral side of me finds stories of redemption or justice intriguing so in that sense I want the Underwoods to be taken down. But, Fincher doesn't always write like that. I see hints of Fincher's style from Gone Girl in HoC, giving the sense that Frank & Claire are both so corrupt that they deserve no one but each other. That said, at this point I think the Underwood's need to be taken down and we watch them burn. What would be interesting though, is if a new character comes along and exposes the Underwood's but he does so for the same reason Frank does what he does, for the power and influence and prestige. If a corrupt person takes down another corrupt person just to maintain corruption, that'd be one hell of a story!

To answer your question, No, throughout the series I've seen Frank's manipulation leave the sour taste in my mouth while it's entertaining and though provoking. I found myself rooting for Zoe, Rachel, Lucas, Tom, and Janine. I guess that's just me though.

This! I think it should be a Democrat congressman (from Colorado) who's low key and has been following Hammerschmidt and the other journalists on the Underwoods, somewhat assists them and brings the pieces together. The reason I went with a Democrat because of the irony and a GOP nemesis would be too predictable.

Jonathan Pryce would be perfect since he's got that calm, level headed presence but shady at the same time.

Fincher doesn't write like anything. He hasn't been credited as having written any of the screenplays he's used for any of his films.

Around mid season 2 the story really made me dislike Frank. But season 3 and on, I began to like him. His ruthlessness, confidence made him more likable. Now I'm definitely on team Underwood and rooting for Frank. I know the story will go as the Underwood's will somehow find "solutions" to all the current problems ending during season 4. But the way I want them to win the election is to show them utterly destroying the Conway's and all those "traitors". For some reason, I want to see Jackie and Remy utterly obliterated as well. The way I see it, the Underwood's will get their revenge on everyone who betrayed them or tried to take them down. The Herald will probably be gone by season's 5 end.

But the way how I see how the series will be played out to the end is the Underwood's, specifically Frank, will get away with it all. He'll probably either finish his second term but while terminally ill due to his liver failing and will die soon. Or which is probably more likely, Frank's liver begins to fail and affect his health significantly during his second term and then Claire becomes President in his place permanently.

To root for somebody would be like forgiving and forgetting every terrible crime committed. I can't feel that way for Frank because he cruelly and maliciously has exploited, abused, and destroyed people who didn't really do anything wrong to him to deserve it. The way he kept strong-arming Peter Russo and forcing him to do his bidding while putting his neighborhood friends out of jobs and not having any bit of compassion, only a gleeful cold demeanor, made me disgusted with him altogether. The same goes for Doug Stamper, he can burn with Frank and Claire too because a man like him clearly has a conscience when showing guilt about denying a man a liver transplant and offering support to the man's widow but he completely ignored it on all other occasions. When he murdered an innocent woman who was living out in nowhere and speaking to no one about him, that made him more sociopathic on Frank's level. As long as I remember and cringe at what they've done, I will never forgive them and I think they will deserve the punishment that comes for them. Any ending of their triumph will leave me feeling bitter and unsettled about the state we live and wishing that politics didn't exist at all as it already has. I'm completely joyless about anybody's campaign this year because I don't feel any profound belief in those suited hotshots.

Honestly? I dontncare if Frank wins or not... but I want Doug to die. I absolutely abhor the man.

reply

Thats funny, I want Doug to take Frank and Clair down and destroy them.

It's been awhile since I've seen it, but if I remember correctly, it's the Doug-surrogate character in the original British House Of Cards who sets in motion the ultimate downfall of the Francis (Frank) character.

Mustard goes on Hot Dogs. Mayo goes on Burgers. There will be no compromise on this.

Are you fücking crazy? He's a murderer. Not just figuratively like major politicians can be, but literally.

So hell no, he must pay for his deeds. If he doesn't, this show will have some major issues with morality.
