How do you even survive if 5 machine guns are being shot at you about 1 foot away? Even if the partner was laying on top of him........

Zavala's body protected his most vital organs and they were both wearing vests. Even though the vests themselves only stop handgun bullets, they'd have to pass through both the front and back plates of Zavala's vest, plus his body, plus the front of Tyler's vest, to kill him. Remember, Tyler was severely injured. It's not like he didn't get hit. The shots just didn't kill him. For all we know, Tyler may never fully recover from his injuries.

I've spent way too much time around XIV's, sureños, and all that crap. They were aggrivatingly spot on as punk gangsters.

And you know how bad guys never seem to hit anything with full auto
AKs in movies? It's pretty close to that in real life. Without training for burst fire, and firing that light weapon from the hip, the muzzle rise will have it all over the place. The first two rounds might get on target, but it's really spray and pray. Plus it's hard to tell how close the were. Could have been 15 yards or so...

I know it's not quite the same, but I have personally seen 10 Afghan National Army soldiers unload their AKs on target about 30 feet away and barely hit anything. When you aren't trained to shoot automatic rifles, you tend to suck at it big time.
